Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Buck.
Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since graduating college, I knew I wanted to be a business owner. I received a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. After graduating college, I took a lot of hard work in my field. Dabbling in different career paths, I increasingly realized how much I craved financial and time freedom. I started with cleaning vacation and family homes while in college to make extra income. With my great attention to detail and perfection, I was very successful at it. Growing up on the east coast, I have always been immersed in the boating and fishing community as I come from a family of fishermen. Morehead City, NC, hosts The Big Rock Blue Marlin fishing tournament yearly. Hundreds of boats from all over come and fish for a chance to win big! Most boats fishing in the tournament are Sport-fishing boats (basically small houses on the water). The job of cleaning the inside of the boat usually falls on the mate or captain. I first offered to clean the inside of a few local boats on the side, then realized how much of a niche I had found. After word of mouth traveled, other captains contacted me for cleaning. Then, I realized I had something big and could make a career out of it. I obtained my LLC in March and have been going non-stop since then. I am so excited to see what the future holds for Sea Cleans.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, Sea Cleans has endured a pretty smooth road. The only struggle is just obtaining new customers consistently. Most boats travel all over the east coast, so my customers are out of town a lot.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sea Cleans?
Sea Cleans offers interior yacht cleaning services. We provide basic cleans, deep cleans, carpet cleaning, linen services, and provision stocking. We will travel to customers if needed. We provide the most professional experience, focusing on a highly detail-oriented clean. We use industry-leading products and equipment, making sure only to use safe materials for these vessels. We leave the boat looking like a luxurious hotel on the water.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
You have to take some risks to be successful. I took the risk by investing in equipment and supplies for my business without knowing how much business I would receive. Luckily the risk has proven to be very rewarding for me so far!
