Exploring Life & Business with Theresa Griffith of Top Cheer Talent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Griffith.

Theresa Griffith

Hi Theresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a daughter of a Filipina immigrant and a US Air Force Veteran who grew up in Okinawa, Japan, then moved to a small town in Bowdon, GA, after my father retired. I started to cheer in the 5th grade while in Okinawa. When I moved to GA, cheerleading was the first thing that allowed me to connect with others. From there, I made the middle school team, Varsity High School Team, and College team, won 4 National Championships in college, coached high school and middle school teams while teaching, coached a college team, and started my own choreography company. It’s all because my parents believed in my joy of cheerleading and invested in what made me happy!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish it would have been smoother! From the physical pain, I put my body through as an athlete (and now a coach) to build my program with nothing but hope and prayer. I am blessed every day to wake up and cheer others on.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Top Cheer Talent (TCT) is a cheerleading company focusing on skills training, choreography, and leadership development among athletes. We have choreographed cheer routines in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. We hold college prep clinics, stunt clinics, and cheer camps. The skill set of cheerleaders is transferable to the workplace. Cheerleaders are the future leaders that can help create a positive and encouraging work environment. I am most proud of our first TCT Team Summer Camp. We had JV, and Varsity Teams come to learn cheers, a customized rally routine, a fight song, and stunt safety. At the end of the camp, we hosted a Top Cheer Talent Show, and our top-tiered cheerleaders won field passes to a Georgia Tech football game! Top Cheer Talent has choreographed talents for Miss South Carolina Contestants, including Alli Stovall, who won the Talent Award for Miss Easley, SC. Owner and operator of TCT, Theresa Griffith, has also coached Charleston Southern University to their first NCA College Nationals Appearance. Top Cheer Talent is a 2022 Charleston’s Top 40 Under 40 Business. Top Cheer Talent has partnered with CheerUpShop.com to design upbeat T-Shirts specifically made for cheerleaders and dance in mind! Our overarching goal is to cheer each other on.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
