Exploring Life & Business with Minnie Robinson Beauty Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Minnie Robinson.

Hi Minnie; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began this journey approximately 9 years ago while working the 3rd shift at BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg. My daughter was 6 years old, and I missed spending quality time with her. I was always tired, my body was aching, and I wasn’t enjoying my personal life. I realized I needed to change my career, and Esthetics became an option. I’ve always been an artist and wanted to do something that allowed me to be creative. I enrolled in the Esthetics program at Greenville Technical College, which was one semester. I would work 3rd shift at BMW, then go straight to tech for my classes. While BMW Manufacturing helped me financially to provide for my daughter and start my business, it wasn’t fulfilling, and I wanted more for my life. After graduating, I continued to work for BMW full-time and do my Esthetics part-time until I could execute my exit plan. Fast forward, it’s been 2 years since I clocked out for the last time to become a full-time entrepreneur. I have no regrets. My career change was the best decision I ever made. I now have free time to spend with my daughter and a gratifying business and life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to where I am now has been stressful. It’s partially my fault because I tend to stray off the path of my goals, lol. The struggle came when I began to outgrow my one-room salon suite. I had to decide whether I wanted to keep my lease, stay in a space that was too – small (and lose business), or break my contract and get a building of my own. Ultimately, I decided to get a building and expand my services. Having my building allowed me the space that I needed to grow. Then came the struggle to find help. Once I found someone to help with the daily operations, I could breathe. Managing my social media has also been a struggle. It’s time-consuming, but I’m slowly incorporating it into my daily schedule. Even though I have struggled along the way, nothing made me want to give up. All of the above obstacles have made me stronger and more successful. I love it!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. – I am a Licensed Esthetician, Licensed Esthetics Instructor, and the owner of Minnie Robinson Beauty Lounge. I am your one-stop for beauty enhancements and specialize in Lash Extensions, Brazilian Waxing, and all things Eyebrows (Microshading, Brow Waxing, Brow Lamination, and Brow Tinting). I also offer 1 on 1 training for Brow Tint & Lamination, and Brazilian Waxing. I love to see the transformation from when a client sits in my chair to when they look in the mirror at the final results. All services and information is listed on my website, www.MinnieRobinsonLE.com.

What are you most proud of?
I was called stupid and crazy for leaving my manufacturing job. Now I laugh and cry tears of joy and accomplishment. My daughter is 16 years old and works in the Beauty Lounge with me. She is a Licensed Braider and Esthetics student. That said, I am proud that I was able to step out on faith and build a successful business and have my daughter by my side. I’ve never said it out loud, but I’m proud. Being an entrepreneur is hard work, and I’m doing it.

What sets you apart from others?
I offer exceptional customer service and a welcoming environment with complimentary chocolates and wine. I can offer my clients the best service and experience through training. I also love to take continuing education classes to enhance my skills. Most importantly, I treat my clients how I want to be treated. I will repeat that I treat my clients how I want to be treated.
