Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana White .
Hi Alana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as a little girl braiding my doll’s hair while my mom was doing my hair. That eventually turned into me doing hair on the side in high school, trying to figure out what my major would be in college. After looking at different schools and majors, none excited me, but I always knew I had the natural skill of doing hair. That’s when I enrolled in Paul Mitchell Cosmetology school in Columbia. I started there fresh out of high school when I graduated in 2019. After graduating from Paul Mitchell during Covid, I took a leap of faith and began specializing in braiding full-time! Since then, I’ve had a Watch Fox interview and ESPN segment and was recognized in various state newspapers. I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces after I’ve completed service and being able to be creative with color.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It definitely could have been a smoother road. The end of my education at Paul Mitchell was the peak of covid. That said, we had to resort to partial online schooling during that time. That was very hard being a cosmetology student and mainly doing hands-on learning. But through the storm, I was able to persevere and push through. However, since it was still a state of emergency and I was starting my business full-time, it took a lot of work to gain clientele because, Of course, everyone wants to be safe.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creations by Christine is a small business where I bring your hair back to life! I specialize in braids and custom color mixes of braiding hair to create the outcome. I’m known for my colorful braids, as seen on Aliyah Boston (USC star basketball athlete). What sets me apart from others is that I have a keen eye for colors. I love creating a masterpiece with multiple colors in a person’s hair. I can show off my creative skill when it comes to braiding. Brand-wise, I am proud that my business name is recognized outside of more than just Columbia. Being just turned 22 and having a successful full-time business with clients coming from all over makes my heart so happy.
Business Instagram @cbc.creations (all information on how to contact me is on there); I offer knotless braids, box braids, feed-ins, passion twists, and tribal/fulani braids. I also service kids and men.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory regarding doing hair would have to be my mom repeatedly buying me dolls because I kept cutting all the hair off them. I think then she knew my passion was hair!
