Today we’d like to introduce you to Joetta Talford.
Hi Joetta, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved real estate. I saw people in my neighborhood who owned homes they leased to people. My great great grandfather owned 30 acres in Columbia (still in our family), and my mom’s father owned an eight-plex in Brooklyn when I was a little girl. Her uncle owned a block of businesses in Chicago in the mid-1900s. In my neighborhood, I would hear talk of people buying properties at the tax auctions and leasing them out. It was always a wonder to me that people could own something and someone rented from them. Once I graduated from Winthrop with my master’s degree, I decided to get involved in the business in 2006. I opened my firm here in Rock Hill, SC, in 2018. I now manage two offices and a referral company.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Gosh, the road could have been a smoother one. I do my best to overcome any obstacle(s) that may hinder me from reaching a goal. Some of my biggest challenges have been the public sometimes underestimating that I am a woman and, yes, a woman of color and that because of that, they won’t get the best advocate for their real estate needs. I am so grateful for all of my clients who see past my exterior and for the fierce businesswoman and real estate advocate they have. I have clients and agents from all walks of life in my firm because they got to know me and understood the power I bring.
We’ve been impressed with Talford Realty International, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been providing international relocations to the Charlotte area since 2007; we specialize in helping busy executives with their property needs, whether relocating, buying investment properties, or leasing & buying commercial real estate for business purposes. We are a full-service residential & commercial real estate firm headquartered in Rock Hill, SC. We value being focused, friendly, flexible, and fair. Those are our company values, and we stick by them. Our proudest moment is earning an international award for Best Residential Real Estate Firm in SC for 2022 and an award for best real estate firm in Rock Hill in 2022. I most recently won an award for being in the nation’s top 20% of customer satisfaction. That’s my biggest honor.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Things will continually change. Markets will shift, and people will come in and out of your life. I always thought that my dad (who wanted to become a real estate developer) would see me one day develop a subdivision. I know he is here in spirit, but he won’t physically be there with me as I reach these milestones.
