Rising Stars: Meet Chelsea Eiben

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Eiben.

Hi Chelsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started independently walking dogs in San Francisco in 2015. I did it part-time for a couple years while doing other things. After moving to Greenville, SC in early 2021, the longing to start dog-walking again returned. I realized this is something that I could do full-time if I wanted to while working for myself. I love being outside and I love dogs. I also love walking. It couldn’t be better. I worked in other fields in the past, such as Operations Management and Behavioral Therapy, which helped me run this dog-walking business to the best of my abilities. Empathy is my number one value with regard to working with animals. After starting Greenville Dog Walking in the spring of 2022, I have reached 23 hours of recurring dog-walks per week. My goal is to reach 32 hours and have Fridays off! Thank you, Greenville, for being a great foundation for me to build this rediscovered passion!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been growing. I have found that placing ads helps….but sometimes, it’s the organic online information that gets the most success. Patience and perseverance are my mantras.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a dog-walker, dog-trainer and dog-whisperer, I mostly walk dogs while training along the way. I believe in getting to know them and treating them with respect and honoring their wishes while using Applied Behavior Analysis to reward their good behavior with their favorite stimulant.

I specialize in walking but am known for helping train dogs. I am most proud of the dogs who were in very bad shape as abused rescues who became lovable puppies with me after some time walking and training together.

I think what sets me apart from others is the motivation towards having empathy when working, and observing behavior, taking notice of the “little things” and mostly, by giving as much love as possible, both in words, tone, pets and rewards.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To stay the course and have faith in yourself.
