Today we’d like to introduce you to Lö Indigo. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Self-proclaimed “Indigo Child” Lö Indigo is a North Carolina native (home to artists like J Cole, Morray, Da Baby, etc.), currently living in Greenville, SC. His rugged look and genre-bending sound are inspired by his rough upbringing, and love for raw, authentic art.
His sound exists in a space between Alternative/Punk Rock, R&B, Hip hop, and Neo Soul. He would pay homage to Artists like Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Wayne for inspiring his rap style while also giving credit to Alternative artists/bands like Milky Chance, Tame Impala, Trevor Hall, etc. You can hear his influences in his recent work on projects like Church of the Innocent, and Memories, Hopes & Hennessy.
Indigo’s goal is to inspire individuality no matter the environment and shed light on the next generation of creatives, and free thinkers
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Music has not been an easy path for me. I grew up poor, bouncing from home to home, and school to school. I was constantly meeting new people and leaving them behind, never really finding my place. I was taught how to survive, not how to excel. I was the first of my family to go to college, and I left to pursue the dream I’m still chasing today.
I lost friends, had doors closed in my face, gone into debt. I’ve been ignored, broke, and broken a lot of times on this path, but it’s taught me how to be self-sufficient, and produce my own results. Every time someone hears my music and actually feels something, it makes it worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My main focus is music, but I’ve had experience in film, clothing, etc. I’m not a fan of holding myself to one form of expression so I dilute the confusion by using the word “artist” when I describe myself.
I think the superpower that really makes me stand out, is my versatility, and ability to add value to any room where people are creating. If there’s something I don’t know how to do, I’ll learn it myself. With the amount of knowledge at our fingertips now, there’s no reason for people not to study what they’re interested in.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Greenville, SC has the best music scene in the world! Our artists offer versatility and sound that you can’t find anywhere else. The thing that makes us stand out is all of these artists are doing it themselves. We go to eBay, get a laptop and just go.
No help, no funding, no artist development, and all of this artist would be fully prepared to go toe-toe with the music industry with the right support, and backing. You can’t help but respect and be on your toes wondering who’s gonna be the one to break through and open the floodgates.
