Today we’d like to introduce you to Monee McElveen.
Hi Monee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Coker College in the year of 2013 with a Degree in Psychology. I worked a few years in the field of counseling after my graduation. I no longer wanted to work in an office setting completing tons and tons of paperwork, nor did I want to continue taking so much time away from my children. I begin researching and thinking of ways to combine my love of counseling and helping others without being stuck in an office for 6-8 hours a day.
After heavy research, I came across the Massage Therapy program at Central Carolina in Sumter South Carolina. My professor Mr. Brent Jackson was amazing and it is because of him that my love for Massage Therapy and Counseling grew to what it is today. I have the freedom to spend as much time as I want with my children and to make sure I am present in things they are doing as they grow older.
I have the freedom to take my children on family vacations all while creating memories they will never forget. Peace & Harmony not only grants me freedom, but I also have the opportunity to provide space for others in the industry of Beauty Health & Wellness to further their career and do what they love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never easy. It is a very difficult task and requires a great bit of your time. A struggle for a new Massage Therapist is obtaining clients in the beginning and proving to your new clientele that you are worth keeping around for the long haul.
At the beginning of my career, I struggled with providing services to the niche I wanted to serve. I was trying to provide services to every niche, not fully understanding how to brand my business and attract my ideal clients. In the beginning, I definitely had my share of new entrepreneur blues.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My name is Monee, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Hartsville S.C. I own a Spa in downtown Hartsville. I specialize in self-care practices that include Therapeutic Massage & Body Contouring Treatments.
I am most known for my Lymphatic Massage Techniques, helping women naturally detox their lymphatic system while also decreasing inches from their waist. I am most proud of how much the brand has grown in the span of 3 years. I started my business in the back of a hair salon, and today Peace & Harmony has expanded to an 8-room spa.
I offer not only to Massage Therapy treatments but walk-in sauna detoxes, Hydration Body Wraps, Body Contouring, and Body Detoxing Services. I am also now enrolling new students into my Spa Marketing Courses where I teach them how to market their beauty & wellness courses to better serve their desired niche.
What do you think about happiness?
Serving my community will always make me proud. When my clients walk into the spa stressed and frustrated I can immediately tell that they are truly going through a lot, seeing them in much better spirits after the conclusion of their session brings me joy.
When my clients tell me that “They needed this” or that they feel “So much better” it really warms my heart. It’s the joy and the happiness that truly make being a therapist worth it.
When I can help at least 1 client a day realize that seeing a Massage Therapist once per month could really change their mental health concerns, I have then done my good deed for the day.
