Hi Hetal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am born and raised in Mumbai, India. Growing up, I watched my grandfather, an acupressurist helping people who came to see him for different reasons of pain and disability. He always made them better. I wanted to do the same. As a family, we couldn’t afford to pay a large donation for colleges.
I was an average student, my grades didn’t help either. But my parents encouraged me to keep going and achieve my goal. They sold some of their assets for my education so I could pursue my master’s in physiotherapy. I moved to the US in 2006 after getting married and got my physical therapy license to practice.
I have worked in various areas of hospital inpatient and outpatient, outpatient, and SNFs over the past 12 years, and everywhere there was something lacking. Medical professionals’ care was influenced and somewhat dictated by the insurance of how long they thought that the person needed the care and whether the care was appropriate.
Fast forward to 2021, I started my own physical therapy and golf performance practice – PerformanceAbove LLC.
People come to me because they strive to get better and hope to add longevity to their life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every entrepreneur knows there is no such thing as a smooth road. And if there was then we wouldn’t be able to value the words’ achievement, progress, accomplishments, and success.
Every challenge is either a big or small rock in the flowing water and water always finds a way or makes a way to keep flowing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
PerformanceAbove specializes in and provides physical therapy and golf performance. I welcome all active people who want to continue to remain active no matter what the age and athletes that want to improve their game and prevent injuries.
I use a quantitative research-based approach and video analysis to assess mobility, strength, speed, agility, and endurance from head to toe (Golf Performance). I then customize a golf performance program based on the results and your goal.
In this era, where patients are numbers most everywhere, I provide one on one concierge service, listen to what they have to say, and help them accomplish their goals. Most of my clients come from word-of-mouth referrals. I offer 3 main services:
1. Golf Performance: a detailed Golf Performance Functional Evaluation that assesses the body from head to toe. Using video analysis and customized assessment, I examine the golf swing to determine functional limitations and how they affect the swing.
2. Tuning Before You Tee: you’ll learn essential warm-up exercises that will prevent injury and improve your mobility, flexibility, and stability before, during, and after your game.
3. Physical Therapy: For people who experience discomfort, pain, or are recovering from an injury or surgery, I develop a treatment plan to help them achieve their goals. Together we can improve your physical function and fitness level so you can get back to enjoying life!
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There are many lessons learned and new developments along my journey.
Having my own business has taught me to have perseverance and continue to experiment while keeping my mission always in my mind. And so it keeps evolving.
It is shaping me into understanding that,” it is ok to comfortable with the uncomfortable” and flow like water with different changes coming.
