Today we’d like to introduce you to Keely Burd.
Hi Keely, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a proud Charlestonian and have spent the better part of my adult life in this city. I reside on James Island with my husband, son, and rescue dog. I love my community and am honored to serve as a realtor, volunteer, mentor, and activist. Prior to moving back to Charleston in March 2016, my husband and I spent 7 awe-inspiring years in Northern California’s wine country, Sonoma County specifically. We treasure hunted for boutique wineries and strolled amongst the Redwoods. It is where we were married and had our son Robert, who is now 8 years old. He is autistic and the funniest cutest kid you will ever meet. I grew up in Northern Virginia and am a Collège of Charleston Alumni, class of 2005. My business signature is “Focus on Service and the Sale Follows” and I believe in kindness and respect. I’m honored to be recognized.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I want to read the person’s story who has had a smooth road! I don’t think any of us come out without trial or tribulation. Looking back, my biggest struggle has always been… me! I’ve worked, and am working through my abusive past, fears, self-doubt, and just not having the confidence to shine. It took a lot of years for me to come into myself professionally and personally, and since I live my life as a whole, it all came together at once. I am very lucky to have an amazing support system including my husband, sister, and friends. I am proud of myself for investing in myself, my mental health, my community, and my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a Realtor in Charleston for 6 years. I represent both buyers and sellers and have an extremely service-based business model. In January 2021 I took a chance and left a high-volume team I had worked on for years. I went to the most productive brokerage in the area and formed a partnership with my old friend, Eric Maurice, as the Charleston Home Specialists. We operate independently but are such assets to one another, we pick one another’s brains and our clients reap the benefits! We are able to travel and enjoy our families knowing we have each other’s backs. I love helping people so real estate is just an extension of that, I am thorough and exceed expectations. I am most proud of my business impact and since 2021 I have donated 5% of every dollar learned to a local charity. Last year was solely the Carolina Youth Developmental Center. Volunteering and giving back is the cornerstone of my business.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love this city and do not sit by idly while it passes me by. You can find me at the County Parks, the beach, downtown, eating at our amazing restaurants, or exploring new things because there are endless ways to enjoy this town. One of my favorites, Spoleto, is here now. I can’t resist seeing the dancers. On the flip side, traffic is getting a little worse and some of our charms is turning more into charisma but I am always willing to go with the current and enjoy where it takes me.
