Meet Trenise Elmore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenise Elmore. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ll never forget the day my mom purchased my very first disposable camera. I remember not really understanding the concept of how it all worked but I started snapping away. When my mom took me to get the images developed, I was so amazed at how I was able to see moments I captured. Seeing how much I loved it, my mom made it a thing to just make sure I had disposable cameras. I was introduced to the beauty of video in high school. I learned how to edit at the church I was attending at that time. I felt the same amazement being able to experience a recorded moment. I knew if it made me feel good to relive moments through pictures and videos that it had to make others feel something too.
In the year 2011, I remember God giving me the name Your World On Film. At that time, I had no clue where to begin or how it would turn out. I ended up enrolling in school for film, twice thinking that’s what I needed to do next however both attempts were unsuccessful. School just wasn’t for me, even though I dropped out, I received what I needed to get the ball rolling on my journey. My second time around trying school out, I met a guy who had a production company. He saw some of my work and asked me to help him out with a few gigs. He and I still work together today. His name is Reg Murphy of TMI Productions. At that time, I still didn’t know the possibilities the career would offer but I continued to pursue as I worked full time.
In 2013 I felt like God was telling me to just do it. Go full force. I took a leap of faith but that first year was a little rocky so I ended up getting a part-time job. I also met Jason Gourdine that year who introduced me to the wonderful world of documentaries. He and I have collaborated on multiple projects over the years and have some exciting projects coming up. In 2015, the organization I was working for got rid of the position however that same year I met Kim Craven of Kim Craven Photography. I went to drop off some camera gear a mutual friend(Thettra Brown-Shugart) borrowed and we chatted for a while in that conversation, I discovered that she was a full-time photographer. This blew my mind. I really thought to be a creative I was supposed to be ok with living from gig to gig. She broke down the different ways she was able to earn, live comfortably and do the things she loves. This was a game-changer for me. It gave me motivation and the push I needed. In 2016 I went full force, finally trusting and believing in what I believe God was telling me to do. During my first 2 years, I was all over the place but in 2018 I met Andre Brown of Andre Brown Photography via Facebook. Not knowing my situation, he gave me a scholarship to his workshop. This workshop would give me the tools I needed to run the business side efficiently. Tools I still use today. That same year I met Sirena Singleton of Aneris Photography. She begin to help me with my brand identity and strategy. I can’t speak for any other field but in the creative world it can be hard finding someone to help guide you in the right direction however I thank God because looking back I see how I crossed paths with the right people at the right time.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was very insecure in the beginning. Even though people were finding out about me and big brands were starting hire me, I didn’t feel like a professional because I didn’t finish college so I thought I was always lacking. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance filmmaker and photographer. I specialize in brand content creation, documentaries and weddings. I love that I’m able to get to know others through their stories and I’m proud that I’m able to educate others on the importance on telling their story. I’m a huge advocate for storytelling. What sets me apart is that I partner with my client to help them translate what they need to say visual. I am always told that I make others feel comfortable in front of the camera.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to growing my brand. I’m in the planning stages of perusing a studio space for Your World On Film to house in-house productions and create a safe space for other creatives of faith like me. I’m also looking forward to branching out into the world of featured films as part of the early development of the 2022 horror film, Haant. So many great things are on the way and I’m excited to be on this journey.
