Hi Tashma, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Tashma Talks, LLC grew out of my passion for communication, connection, and helping people feel seen and understood. I have spent nearly 30 years working with children, families, and communities, with a background in speech and language, youth development, education, and sign language.
Over the years, I saw how often communication barriers can prevent people from learning, connecting, and fully participating. I wanted to create something that went beyond one profession or one communication method. In 2020, Tashma Talks, LLC was born as a way to bring together my experience, creativity, and passion for helping people connect.
What started as an idea has grown into a business providing communication and language services, ASL (American Sign Language) education, learning enrichment, and community-based programming. I work with children, families, schools, organizations, and community partners, both locally and virtually with clients outside of my city.
Today, Tashma Talks is about more than teaching communication skills. It is about building voices, hands, and hearts and creating connections through communication, community, and learning. I’m continuing to grow the business while staying true to the reason I started it: helping people communicate, connect, and feel like they belong.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a business while balancing work, family, and other commitments has challenged me to be patient, consistent, and willing to grow. I’ve had moments of uncertainty and had to learn many parts of entrepreneurship along the way. But each challenge has helped me become more confident, resilient, and clear about the purpose of Tashma Talks and the people I want to serve.

Tashma Talks, LLC is a communication and community consulting company dedicated to helping organizations and individuals build stronger connections through accessible communication, community engagement, training, and inclusive programming. I specialize in American Sign Language (ASL) education, communication strategies, youth development, enrichment, and community advocacy. What sets Tashma Talks apart is my ability to bring people together, make communication more accessible, and create meaningful learning experiences for people of all ages and abilities. With nearly 30 years of experience working with children, families, and diverse communities, I bring both professional expertise and a personal passion for empowering others. I am most proud of the relationships, opportunities, and lasting impact Tashma Talks continues to create. My brand is built on connection, inclusion, and the belief that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and understood. Through workshops, presentations, ASL classes, consulting, and enrichment programs, my goal is to build bridges, break down communication barriers, and empower individuals and organizations to communicate, connect, and grow together. Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people may not know about me is just how many different hats I wear outside of my business. I enjoy practicing tai chi, hikes, walks with my favorite dog, Tilly-who by the way responds to around 15 different commands in sign language. I began teaching her ss a puppy now she has mastered more than most! I also enjoy reading books, spas, stand up comedy and I absolutely love, love moments alone on my sofa curled up in my favorite blanket watching movies. Finding moments of peace in the middle of a busy life is top priority. One thing I’ve learned is that I can pour into others while still making room for my own growth. I’m learning to embrace new experiences, protect my peace, and be intentional about how I spend my time, who I spend it with and preserving my energy for positivity and productivity. Above all, my faith, my family, and my desire to make a difference keep me grounded.
