Check Out Sparks Thee’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sparks Thee.

Hi Sparks, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got into DJing at age 12 because I grew up with influence from my grandfather, DJ SG. I was fascinated by the whole thing, from the music selection to the equipment to the way a DJ could completely change the energy in a room. What started as me experimenting and trying to figure things out eventually turned into something I took seriously. Since then, I’ve done 1,000+ shows, and a lot of my growth has honestly come from being thrown into different rooms, different crowds, and different situations and figuring out how to make it work.

Over time, I realized I’m not really interested in being just the guy who shows up and plays music. DJing opened the door for me to get into production, audio engineering, video, graphic design, branding, and creative direction. All of those things eventually started feeding back into the way I DJ. I think about the entire experience now, not just the next song. I want the music, the visuals, the environment, and the energy to feel intentional. I’m always learning and evolving, but that’s probably what keeps it interesting for me. I started because I loved music, and I’ve stayed because I realized there are a thousand different ways to create something with it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not at all. I’ve had to learn a lot of this the hard way. There have been plenty of times where I put everything I had into something and it still didn’t work out, or I had to watch other people get opportunities I felt like I deserved. You deal with slow periods, people not understanding what you’re trying to build, and figuring out how to keep going when there’s no guarantee it’s going to pay off. DJing is the part that comes naturally to me. Building a career around it has been the real challenge.

I think one of the biggest things I’ve learned is not to wait on somebody else to give me permission to create. If I want to do something, I’ve learned how to figure it out myself. That’s a big reason I got into production, audio, video, graphic design, branding, and creative direction. Some of those things started out of necessity, but eventually they became part of how I express myself. There’s been a lot of trial and error, but every setback has made me better at figuring things out and more confident in what I’m building.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a DJ first, but I’ve never really operated like just a DJ. I specialize in reading a room, building energy, and knowing how to move through different sounds without making it feel forced. Hip-hop and house are probably where I’m strongest, but my selection is pretty broad. I’m also involved in production, audio, video, graphic design, branding, and creative direction, so I’m used to taking an idea from something that’s just in my head and figuring out how to actually make it real.

What I’m most proud of is building my own identity instead of trying to fit into somebody else’s version of what a DJ should be. I’ve done over 1,000 shows, worked with different types of artists and events, built brands, created content that has reached over 1.5 million views, and managed creative projects. I think what really sets me apart is how multifaceted I am. I can walk into a situation and approach it from multiple angles because I’ve spent years developing different creative skills that all connect back to music. I’m not just thinking about the DJ set. I’m thinking about the sound, the visuals, the branding, the content, the experience, and how all of it can work together.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think the biggest risk I’ve taken is simply deciding to do this. Being a DJ, being a creative, putting yourself out there, and betting on yourself when there’s no guarantee it’s going to work out is a risk. Every time I invest my time, money, energy, or creativity into something I believe in, I’m taking that chance. There have been plenty of moments where I could’ve taken the safer route, but I knew that wasn’t really what I wanted.

I’ve learned that if I’m going to take a risk, I want it to be on myself. I’d rather go out on a limb trying to build something I believe in than wonder what could’ve happened if I had actually gone for it. Not everything has worked out exactly how I planned, but every risk has taught me something or opened another door. For me, that makes it worth it. The risk is part of the process, and so far, betting on myself has been worth every reward that’s come with it.
