Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Lozada.
Hi Victor , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in The Bronx, September 5, 2001. Very fresh into a climate of beauty & chaos as 9/11 would occur just days after coming home for the first time. My mom ultimately decided to move my younger sister & I to South Carolina alongside my grandparents who came down here to retire. I spent a decent portion of my life adjusting to the South while going back to New York in the summertime to stay rooted around family. I went through public schooling in Greenville for the majority of my school career. Upon graduating from Hillcrest High – I pivoted toward one semester at Greenville Tech before ultimately leaving to pursue a career in music. I’ve spent the last 7 years working, traveling & evolving through my art. Of course there’s always more to the story but to sum it all up, Gratitude & Patience keep me here and move me forward.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been an easy path, I lost my Father to cancer in 2022, that put a new battery in back for much of what I’m capable of today. Apart from that I have witnessed many instances of violence at a very young age growing up in New York.
As a freshman in high school I lost my best friend to a brain tumor at the ripe age of 15. His name was Eduardo Ramos. In memory of him I derived the alias “Somar, from his last name in order to keep his life attached to mine in every artistic endeavor past, present & future.
As a young adult, I’ve dealt with near death experiences, addiction, loss, anxiety & depression. Often times searching for the meaning in all of it. I find myself being stronger because of such of occurrences.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to think of what I do as starting something from nothing then turning that something into everything.
I self produce a lot of my songs, diving into different genres of music such as hip-hop, alternative, pop and r&b. I love to delve into different mediums as well from photography to videos to fashion. All of these things culminate toward amplifying my music.
I would say the thing I am most proud of is that I’m still going. I’ve learned that it takes intense focus & discipline in order to progress in this often over saturated music industry. When it comes to my work it’s to be determined which idea strikes me with the most pride but I would say I’m proud of each idea.
I know that being yourself to the highest degree is the only way to set yourself apart from others. What I embody is simply just a mirror for people to look into. We’re all different stories in the same book.
What does success mean to you?
I measure success in the lives of those around me whom I love and hold so close to my heart. Solo accomplishments only mean so much if I can’t share or reap the benefits of such things with my people. Success is gratitude, success is passion. Success to me has never looked
like dollar signs, glory or status. It’s always been “What am I doing to make the world better for others?”
