Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Tierney of Emanate Balance Massage Therapy Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Tierney.

Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Allen and I met in 2007 when an ex boyfriend got me a massage package, just after graduating massage therapy school. The massage therapist was Allen and I just wanted to relax so I didn’t tell him I was a massage therapist. I didn’t want him to feel scrutinized, judged or under pressure to get every stroke correct. He asked if I was a massage therapist and I was amazed how my muscles revealed me so much. This amazement about how the body communicates is still a source of endless fascination still to this day. As massage therapist, we can tell how you sleep, your dominant hand, injuries, holding patterns, even what emotions you express often. Massage Therapy has taught us how to serve others, uplift our community, how to be more helpful to the people who bless our doors and how to level ourselves up so we can continue to give back, all while raising a family, a homestead and a legacy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No way. We bought the building because we gave up on having children, then we got pregnant. Covid killed our couples massage plan. We knew we had 2 therapist and 2 incomes, then my husband had a life threatening injury, needed emergency surgery and couldn’t work for 19 months. The struggle to find reliable staff is real and constantly ongoing, things constantly need fixing, restocking, rebooting, and rebooking. Since purchasing the business we’ve lost 3 parents to cancer, missed so many birthdays but have also had to find new ways of having fun and enjoying life with each other, gratitude dispite not knowing if this is really successful or not, and grit to take hits but keep moving forward.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Emanate Balance Massage Therapy Studio ?
At Emanate Balance Massage we understand you are connected from head to toe in and out with fascia. Fascia is responsible for delivering nutrients and toxins to and from the cell. It’s also emotionally reactive, so emotions can get stuck in your fascia. So that achy knee could be the body calling out to you for a change. We simply point out what we have learned about where tension and emotions live. The massage helps realign fascia and it feels like “turning down” negativity and stress reactivity and turning up good emotions. Honestly, we think everyone needs massage therapy and could even help make the world a better place!

What’s next?
We would love to help parents of young children. Especially parents with hormonal imbalances. People with hormonal imbalances have more emotions and less stress resilience, so they snap at loved ones more. As we mentioned, fascia reacts to emotions. So children of emotional parents tent to have more tension, pain, stress reactivity and eventually more health issues. By helping parents with massage, stretching, acupressure points for parents and children, and essential oils use helps parents reclaim emotions and parent with less guilt, frustration, anger, anxiety and more love, compassion, understanding, level headed decision making and showing thier children how to regulate big emotions.
