Today we’d like to introduce you to Myriam Auger.
Myriam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a self-taught photographer and creative, born in Banff, Alberta, and now living in the US. Although I was born in the Canadian Rockies, I spent most of my childhood in a small ski town outside of Québec City. I grew up in a bilingual household and spoke mostly French with my family and friends.
After high school, I spent seven years studying across visual arts, early childhood education, and museum studies, eventually completing my master’s degree. For my final thesis, I explored the accessibility of arts education in the province of Québec. Looking back, I think I’ve always been drawn to the ways art can help us slow down, connect, and see the world a little differently.
After graduating, I began my career in the commercial art world in New York, eventually managing a Canadian art gallery in Tribeca. Alongside my work, I started sharing my photography online. What began as a very amateur creative outlet slowly grew into a little corner of the internet that I’ve come to cherish, a place where I can share my love for noticing the little things, slowing down, and, most notably, rainy days. I was lucky to call New York home for a little over three years.
Then, in the fall of 2025, my husband and I took a leap of faith and did something we’d always dreamed of: We quit our jobs and travelled for several months. We visited five countries in the span of two months, and after returning home, I continued travelling through five more countries over the winter and spring of 2026.
During this time, I also began investing more of myself into my photography and creative work. Somewhere along the way, what had once been a hobby became my full-time career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This past year has taught me so much, but perhaps my biggest takeaway is that our journeys rarely unfold in a straight line. There have been so many moments when I’ve wondered why I spent time studying something, took a certain job, moved somewhere new, or followed an interest that seemed unrelated to where I thought I was headed.
But looking back, I can see that none of it was wasted. Every experience, every interest, and every unexpected detour added another piece to the person I am and the work I create today.
Sometimes, the path only makes sense when you look back at it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I primarily work as a photographer and content creator, with a focus on creating imagery that captures a feeling as much as a place. My work is drawn to moody, atmospheric moments: the soft light of an overcast day, rain against a window, a cozy interior, or the quiet feeling that comes with slowing down.
I’ve always been particularly drawn to autumn and winter, and I genuinely love rainy days. There’s something about these seasons and the atmosphere they create that makes everyday moments feel a little more intentional, intimate, and cinematic. That sense of coziness and escapism is at the heart of my work.
Over time, this style has led me to collaborate with lifestyle brands and, increasingly, with the hospitality industry, particularly hotels. I love creating imagery that not only showcases a space, but captures what it feels like to actually be there: the morning light, a rainy afternoon spent indoors, a warm drink after a day outside, or those small details that make a stay memorable.
At its core, my work is about storytelling through atmosphere: creating images that make you want to pause, step inside, and experience the moment for yourself.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is helping people slow down and notice the beauty in the seemingly mundane moments of everyday life.
We’re often so focused on what’s next that we forget to really experience where we are. I love creating work that encourages people to pause, to notice the rain outside the window, the warmth of a quiet morning, or the little details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
To me, there’s so much beauty in ordinary moments when we give ourselves the time to actually see them.
