Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?
My journey is a story of continuous learning, total faith, and finding the perfect harmony between two very different worlds: enterprise information technology and stand-up comedy.
Originally from India, I spent the early part of my career working as a clerk and building my foundational professional skills. In the mid-1990s, I made the life-changing leap to move to the United States. Over the last 30 years, I’ve dedicated myself to growing in the tech sector, serving for many years as a group lead representative for Oracle and managing complex supply chain applications. Today, I am proud to protect our country’s information systems as a civilian IT and security professional for NIWC Atlantic, frequently traveling between my home in Orlando, Florida, and our team center in Charleston, South Carolina.
However, my life changed completely in 2013 during a corporate event with a crowd of 250 people. A colleague asked me to step up and perform stand-up comedy for the first time. Shyness has never been part of my personality, and my corporate public speaking background gave me zero stage fright. I just got up there and spoke from my heart with no filter. Seeing the entire crowd burst into laughter sparked a new passion inside me.
That single night my professional comedic persona, “Dr. JustKidding”. Later that same year, I landed an opportunity in Summerville, South Carolina, to perform a routine on the Dave Ugly Show. It went so well that it turned into a weekly satirical pop-culture spot that ran for a whole year. Since then, I’ve spent over 12 years performing stand-up comedy across both India and the United States, utilizing my catchphrase “Just kidding!” to bring joy to others.
As the years progressed, I realized I wanted to do more than just make people laugh; I wanted to lift them up. After being invited to speak for organizations like Dale Carnegie and TedSpeaks, I found my true calling in blending motivational speaking with live comedy. I firmly believe that motivation and comedy go hand-in-glove. My goal is to use humor to break down barriers, inspire resilience, and show people that nothing is impossible when you combine true desires, total faith, and persistence.
Reaching milestones has always kept me moving forward, allowing me to fully protect the brand I have built over the last decade. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been a completely smooth road; like any creative and professional journey spanning several decades, it has come with its fair share of real ups and downs.When I first started breaking into the American entertainment landscape, I had to navigate distinct cultural and structural learning curves. Many people look at public speaking or performance and immediately wonder about communication barriers. While I often joke that I have one of the thickest Asian Indian accents in the world, that actually never held me back on stage. Instead, my accent became an organic, beloved part of my comedic identity—allowing me to deliver sharp, spontaneous, and conversational humor that connects deeply with diverse audiences.The primary struggles along the way have been driven much more by practical, economic factors. Balancing a rigorous career in enterprise cybersecurity and naval information technology while funding and building an independent entertainment brand from the ground up requires massive persistence. There were times when economic shifts and resource constraints forced me to pace my growth carefully while living paycheck to paycheck.However, I have always believed that total faith and consistency turn obstacles into stepping stones. To transition my passion from a performance hobby into a sustainable, structured entity, I officially formalized my business. I am proud to share that DR. Professionally, I am a technology leader, security specialist, and mission assurance professional with over three decades of experience driving innovation across global enterprise systems. My career began with humble roots as a desk clerk in New Delhi, India. Driven by a deep passion for learning, I earned a Bachelor’s in English Literature and a Master of Science in Information Security, which eventually propelled my move to the United States in the mid-1990s.Over the last 30 years, I have specialized in architecting and managing complex, large-scale technology environments. I spent a significant portion of my career serving as an expert and group lead representative in Oracle E-Business Suite R12 platforms, designing enterprise resource planning (ERP) and specialized mobile supply chain (MSCA) solutions for global organizations. Today, my career focuses on public service and defense technology. I work as a civilian IT and security infrastructure professional for NIWC Atlantic, focusing on cybersecurity frameworks (RMF), risk mitigation (POA&M), and ensuring authorizations to operate (ATO) for critical naval defense networks.I am known for my unique ability to bridge technical complexity with human-centered leadership. Beyond my defense work, which includes past tech spaces intersecting with NASA-linked technology projects at Cape Canaveral, I am equally recognized for my extensive legacy in civic leadership and community service. I am deeply committed to public outreach, having been appointed by Mayor Buddy Dyer to a two-year term on the City of Orlando Parks and Recreation Board of Advisors to authorize municipal budgets, and serving as a director for the Asian American Chamber of Commerce where I was recognized as a community leader by Florida Governor Rick Scott. Most notably, I have committed myself to public safety and empowerment, serving as a District 2 Council Member on the Orange County Citizen Cops Council, where I co-chaired training programs to educate citizens on emergency preparedness and disaster planning.When I look back, I am most proud of the absolute trajectory of my journey—knowing that with relentless determination and faith, a clerk from New Delhi could successfully transition into safeguarding secure, high-stakes military information systems in the United States while leaving a lasting imprint on local government and community boards. I am also incredibly proud of founding Sai Sharan, Inc. in 2001, a non-profit charity through which I have organized vital fundraisers to support disaster-stricken communities globally and locally, including relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and tsunami victims.What sets me apart from others is my multifaceted duality. Most technical professionals in information security operate strictly behind a screen, but I actively combine strategic logic with intense human connection and civic duty. In the stage as a motivational speaker and trademarked stand-up comedian (Dr. Just Kidding), I bring a vibrant energy and an absolute refusal to let rigid environments stifle positivity. This rare blend of enterprise tech expertise, public governance, and artistic communication allows me to solve problems, lead teams, and inspire resilience in a way very few people can.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Madras (now Chennai), India, my personality was defined by a strong desire to be unique, excel in leadership, and leave a lasting legacy. I always had an absolute refusal to blend into the background. In fact, as a youth, I used to confidently tell people around me that I was “God”—a humorous hyperbole looking back, but one that truly reflected my innate drive to think big, step into the spotlight, and push the boundaries of what was possible.My education laid a foundational runway for this ambition. I completed my early schooling at Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) North in T Nagar, Madras, which instilled a deep sense of discipline and purpose in me. I then pursued my passion for language and communication at DB Jain College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Madras. Decades later, that same academic drive carried over into my life in the United States, where I earned a Master of Science from Colorado Technical University between 2005 and 2007, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA.Interest-wise, my youth and college days were a whirlwind of media, writing, and creative communication. In the early 1990s, I actively stepped into public broadcasting, participating in All India Radio Youth programmes and testing my quick-thinking skills on the popular Tamil television quiz show Sindikka Oru Nodi in Madras.I was also deeply passionate about the written word and publishing. I frequently authored creative and strategic articles in both English and Tamizh (Tamil) to express my perspectives on society and culture. My writing was featured in Alpha Magazine by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Driven by my entrepreneurial spirit, I even took matters into my own hands by creating, authoring, and publishing an independent youth magazine called Gateway. Managing that publication from scratch taught me the mechanics of public outreach and media production long before I ever stepped foot into global technology corporations.Looking back, the kid who was busy editing independent magazines, competing on Tamil television quiz shows, and dreaming of making a massive mark on the world was simply laying the essential bricks for the multi-layered technologist, community leader, and motivational comedian I would eventually become.
