Meet Nick Basile of Groucho’s Deli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Basile.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Regarding my career with Groucho’s Deli, my story begins at the age of 13 in Columbia, SC. New in town and looking for buddies, I was delighted to find out my new friend at school, Max Miller, also happened to live on the same street as I did. Our friendship grew, and when it was time for me to get my first job, Max suggested I work for his families’ business: Groucho’s Deli. I continued to work my way up the ranks at the 5 points location, eventually becoming a manager during my years at USC. Now pursuing a degree in finance, I had always had an interest in business. That’s when Max and I had the grand idea… move to Charleston and use our deli knowledge to open some shops of our own up and continue his families’ legacy!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been very privileged to have had a fair amount of experience in the deli world at a young age. I was able to fall on my face early on, which prepared me for small failures along the way in my professional journey. Of course we all have our natural share of struggles, but no more than my fellow neighbor. Persist!

As you know, we’re big fans of Groucho’s Deli. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a South Carolina staple, specializing in fat subs, yummy salads, and southern hospitality. A true institution of our fine state. You will always be greeted with a smile at any of our 33 locations. This is what I’m most proud of, and also what separates us from the competition.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m also an actor. I’ve been in a number of films and am represented in Atlanta, as well as Los Angeles. It’s a passion I discovered later in my life. It brings me great joy.
