Hidden Gems: Meet Alison Ruh of Vitamin Bee Wellness Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Ruh.

Hi Alison , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Vitamin Bee Wellness Co. grew from the intersection of so many parts of my life: motherhood, wellness, nature, and a desire to create something meaningful for my family and community.

Before starting the business, I worked as a naturalist, so I have always felt deeply connected to the outdoors and the way nature supports our well-being. As a mother of four, I also became increasingly intentional about the ingredients I brought into our home. I wanted products that were simple, thoughtfully made, and practical for real family life. When I could not always find what I was looking for, I began creating it myself.

What started small gradually grew through farmers markets, word of mouth, and the support of our local community. I listened closely to what customers needed and continued developing products that could become part of their everyday routines, from our elderberry elixir and botanical skincare to outdoor essentials and superfood blends.

Today, Vitamin Bee Wellness Co. has grown beyond the market table. Our products are carried by retail partners, we have expanded into wholesale and distribution, and we now serve customers well beyond our local area. Even as the business grows, the heart behind it has remained the same: clean ingredients, real life, and wild places.

Building this company while raising and homeschooling four daughters has not always been easy, but it has been incredibly meaningful. I am proud that something created from my own family’s needs has become a trusted brand that supports other families, while still staying rooted in the community and values that inspired it from the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of my greatest challenges has been building a business alongside the very full life of raising four daughters. Over the years, that has meant working between newborn feedings, toddler needs, homeschooling, teenage schedules, appointments, laundry, and preparing healthy meals for a family. There has rarely been a neat separation between business and home. Some days, Vitamin Bee has been built in five minute increments with a child beside me and dinner cooking in the background.

There have also been plenty of challenges within the business itself. I have experienced failed product attempts, ideas that did not connect the way I expected, plans that changed at the last minute, and seasons when growth felt painfully slow. I have second guessed myself, shed tears, and wanted to give up many times. Running a product based business means wearing more hats than I ever imagined, often switching from product development to customer service, marketing, packaging, and motherhood within the same hour.

The hardest part has been learning that I cannot give every area of life one hundred percent at the same time. Some seasons require more from my family, while others demand more from the business. I have had to become flexible, make peace with imperfect balance, and focus on the next thing in front of me.

The road has been challenging, but it has also shown me how much can be accomplished through persistence. Vitamin Bee was not built through perfect routines or uninterrupted workdays. It was built by continuing to show up, even when I only had five minutes to give.

As you know, we’re big fans of Vitamin Bee Wellness Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Vitamin Bee Wellness Co. is a mama owned botanical wellness brand created for families who want cleaner, more intentional products without making everyday wellness feel complicated. Our collection includes herbal wellness products, superfood blends, botanical skincare, mineral sun care, and outdoor essentials. We are especially known for our Elderberry Elixir and Bee Luminous Sun Veil, two products that have become everyday staples for many of our customers.

What sets Vitamin Bee apart is the care and intention behind every product. We never use artificial fragrances, dyes, or preservatives, and our products are free from phthalates and parabens. We also avoid unnecessary fillers and seed oils, prioritize recognizable ingredients, and focus on products that are both beautiful and genuinely useful. The majority of our packaging is recyclable or made with more environmentally conscious materials.

I am most proud of the trust we have built with our customers. Many people first discover us at a local market, return for the products they love, and eventually introduce Vitamin Bee to their friends and families. Watching that support carry us from a market table into retail stores, wholesale partnerships, and national distribution has been incredibly meaningful.

Although Vitamin Bee continues to grow, it is still deeply personal. Every product reflects the way I approach wellness in my own home as a mother of four. Our goal is to help families make more thoughtful choices while keeping wellness approachable and grounded in real life. That is the heart of our message: clean ingredients, real life, wild places.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to start before you feel completely ready, avoid comparing your beginning to someone else’s established business, trust your instincts, and understand that failure is often part of figuring out what actually works.

That is the advice I would give someone else. Whether I consistently followed it myself is an entirely different question.

I have overthought branding, compared myself to businesses several chapters ahead, second guessed good ideas, and waited for the perfect moment more times than I would like to admit. So I can confidently offer this advice because I learned most of it by doing the exact opposite first.

You do not need a flawless plan or every detail figured out before beginning. Put your idea into the world, listen to your customers, make adjustments, and keep going. Some ideas will work beautifully, and others will teach you what not to do next time.

Most importantly, give yourself permission to learn as you go. Consistent, imperfect action will take you much further than waiting for everything to feel perfect. And if you ignore this advice at first, do not worry. Apparently, that is also one way to build a business.
