Hi Lashanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the beauty industry started in 2017 when I became a licensed cosmetologist. What started as simply doing hair and something I was passionate about eventually grew into something much bigger than I imagined. Over the years, I’ve worked hard to build Brilliant Bundles Hair Extensions Etc. LLC, and through all the ups and downs of being a business owner, I’ve continued to learn, grow, and perfect my craft.
As my business grew, my purpose grew with it. I realized that doing hair wasn’t only about making someone look good—it was about how I could make someone feel. That became especially important to me when I began providing wigs and hair solutions for women experiencing hair loss from alopecia, chemotherapy, cancer treatments, and other circumstances. Being able to help a woman look in the mirror and feel beautiful and confident again gave my work an entirely different meaning.
I’ve come a long way since 2017. I went from simply having a passion for hair to becoming a licensed professional, building my own business, operating my own salon suite, expanding the services I provide, and continuing to find new ways to serve people through my gift. It hasn’t always been easy, and there have definitely been seasons where business was slow or I questioned what was next for me, but I never stopped.
Today, I’m proud of how far Brilliant Bundles has come, but I also know I’m nowhere near finished. My vision is bigger now. I want to continue growing my business, expand my wig services, and build relationships with hospitals and organizations so I can reach more women and children experiencing medical hair loss. When I look back at where I started and where I am today, I realize that every challenge, every client, and every season taught me something. I didn’t just build a hair business—I discovered a purpose within it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest struggles along the way has been learning how to keep going when business isn’t consistent. Being a hairstylist and business owner means there are seasons when my chair is full and seasons when things slow down, and I’ve had to learn not to measure my talent or my purpose by how busy I am at the moment. I’ve also had to learn the business side of the beauty industry—marketing myself, attracting and retaining clients, managing expenses, investing back into my business, and staying relevant in an industry that is constantly changing.
Another struggle has been balancing entrepreneurship with being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Life doesn’t stop because you own a business. I’ve had to show up for my clients while still being present for my family and dealing with real-life challenges behind the scenes. There have been times when I’ve questioned whether I should continue doing hair or try something completely different, but somehow I always come back to the reason I started and the people I’m able to help.
Financially, building a business without always having access to a lot of capital has also been challenging. There are so many things I would love to invest in—more inventory, better equipment, marketing, a larger space, and expanding my services—but I’ve learned to build with what I have while working toward what I want.
Through all of those struggles, I’ve learned resilience. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship isn’t always going to look successful while you’re in the middle of building. Sometimes success is simply not quitting. Since starting in 2017, I’ve had plenty of reasons to give up, but I’m still here, still learning, still serving my clients, and still believing there is so much more ahead for Brilliant Bundles.

I started my business in 2017, but honestly, my business has always been about more than hair. I specialize in custom wigs and hair solutions for women who have experienced hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia, and other conditions that have affected their confidence and the way they see themselves. For me, creating a unit for a woman who has lost her hair isn’t just about making something beautiful. It’s about helping her feel like herself again. There is something very personal about sitting with a woman who has gone through something so difficult and watching her face change when she sees herself with hair again. That moment means everything to me. I know I can’t take away what she’s been through, but if I can give her back a little confidence, a little joy, and remind her that she is still beautiful, then I know I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I’ve kept my business going since 2017 through some very difficult seasons in my own life. There have been times when business was slow, times when I questioned myself, and times when I had to keep believing even when I couldn’t see how things were going to work out. But I never stopped loving what I do. My goal is to grow my business in a way that allows me to serve more women who need these services. I want to be able to offer better-quality units, expand my inventory, improve my equipment, and create an even more comfortable experience for women who may already be dealing with a difficult season in their lives. I don’t want to build a business just to say I own a business. I want to build something that has purpose. I want the woman sitting in my chair to feel seen. I want her to know that her hair loss does not take away from her beauty, her femininity, or her worth. And I want my business to be a place where she can come in hurting and leave feeling a little more like herself. Receiving the Amber Grant would mean more to me than just financial assistance. It would be an opportunity to pour back into something I’ve spent almost a decade building with my own hands, my own heart, and a whole lot of faith. I believe there is still so much more for my business to become, and I believe the women I’m called to serve are a big part of that purpose.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that I can be consistent here I’m rarely never not working in my passion or purpose the only thing I don’t like is the support from the people in your own city is slim majority of my clients come from the surrounding areas.
