Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Grover.
Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Valhalla Ash & Iron was born out of my love and passion for cigars.
It started simply enough. A few friends and I would get together, grab a few stogies, and enjoy a guys’ night. At the time, I knew very little about cigars. It was more about hanging out, having a few laughs, and enjoying the moment.
But somewhere along the way, that changed.
I began to appreciate the craftsmanship, the history, the culture, and the unique experience that comes with every cigar. I fell in love with the different notes and flavors, but more importantly, I discovered what a cigar represents to me: an opportunity to slow down.
In a world that constantly tells us to move faster, a cigar gives you permission to do the opposite. You don’t rush it. You take your time. You unplug, sit back, have a conversation, and simply enjoy the moment.
That experience became the foundation for Valhalla Ash & Iron.
For me, this business is about more than a job. It’s about more than money, sales, or numbers on a page. I didn’t want to spend my life constantly moving from one thing to the next and look back wondering where the time went. I wanted to build something around an experience that reminds people to slow down and appreciate the moments that matter.
My goal with Valhalla Ash & Iron is to bring that same feeling to every event, every gathering, and every customer we serve.
Whether it’s a wedding, bachelor party, birthday, guys’ night, or simply an evening with friends, I want to create more than just a cigar experience. I want to create an opportunity to disconnect from the rush of everyday life, connect with the people around you, and enjoy the moment.
Because sometimes, the best moments in life are the ones you don’t rush.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been an easy road. I went from knowing very little about cigars to learning what it takes to build and operate a cigar business from the ground up.
Along the way, I’ve had to develop stronger communication and business skills while learning about the legal requirements, regulations, and taxes involved in running the company. I’ve also had to figure out how to grow the business through social media and marketing while working with a limited budget, all while managing inventory and the day-to-day responsibilities that come with owning a business.
There has been a lot to learn, and there have certainly been challenges, but each one has helped me grow—not only as a business owner, but as a person. Valhalla Ash & Iron has been a journey of learning, adapting, and continuing to push forward even when the path hasn’t been easy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think what I am most proud of is our ability to meet each customer where they are. I genuinely enjoy talking with people face-to-face and building relationships through conversation.
Whether someone is completely new to cigars or a seasoned cigar enthusiast, we strive to make everyone feel welcome and find something that fits their interests and preferences. I especially enjoy educating people about cigars and helping them discover something they can truly enjoy without feeling overwhelmed or pressured.
At the end of the day, it’s not about how much someone spends. No matter what your budget or experience level may be, we welcome the opportunity to have a conversation, share our knowledge, and help you find the right cigar for you.
For me, that personal connection and making sure every customer feels valued is what makes Valhalla Ash & Iron special.
What were you like growing up?
Oh man, growing up, I was definitely a wild child. I was rough around the edges on the outside, but I always had a tender heart.
As the middle child, I was used to fighting for my place and attention. If you’re a middle child, you probably understand! My older sister was the only daughter, and my younger brother was the baby. Then there was me. 😂
Despite that, I was blessed with amazing parents who helped shape the person I am today. I struggled at times with a wandering mind and anger, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve learned to better understand myself, manage those challenges, and become more grounded.
My family was always hardworking, and faith was a pillar in our home. Looking back, I believe both the difficult seasons and the foundation of faith I was raised with played a major role in shaping who I am today.
Those experiences taught me resilience, the importance of hard work, and the value of staying grounded in what truly matters.
