Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyric` B.
Hi Lyric`, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Yo first and foremost, man big shoutout to Voyage South Carolina for pulling up! I was stoked when my management told me you guys were interested in rapping with me for the cover piece. So look, I moved out here to Clemson to escape the city grind and reinvent myself. Coming from a small town vibe, and even though I toured heavy and dropped features on major TV shows as Lyric` B, I’m definitely not arrogant enough to think everyone out here knew my face.
Fast forward a year of clocking a regular part time gig in downtown Clemson and commuting back to Atlanta on weekends—my double life officially got exposed. A few college students spotted me hours after I shut down the stage at Atlanta Fest, that legendary HBCU celebratory function. Next thing you know, university board directors and SC college radio hosts were showing up at my job and sliding into my DMs trying to book Lyric` B for the next big function. So much for laying low! South Carolina ended up embracing me even harder than Atlanta ever did, and that’s where I first put my foot on the gas. That’s my second home you know?
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Real talk, I’ve been in this entertainment business since I was literally a baby—taking home Mr. Wisconsin and The NAACP Freedom Baby Crowns at 17 months old, all the way up to broadcasting FM radio, performing on massive stages, and featuring on major tours. After a while, you just want to step outside and have nobody know your face—I’m laughing, but I’m dead serious. So I moved out to South Carolina trying to live that quiet Peter Parker, spider man life. I honestly never thought those two worlds would collide, but I’m glad they did. The exposure brought me a whole new wave of teens, college students, and even politicians locked in, so I’m beyond grateful for how it turned out. That’s the most struggle I’ve run into, balancing a quiet private life when my livelihood is so loud & bostrious as entertainment is.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a 5 time octave opera – classically trained vocalist and songwriter. I specialize in story telling and all around simultaneous performing. So typically even with out background dancers or singers you’re going to get a high pace, high energy, over the top performance involving much crowd participation. In a day and age where image is used to sale records I lead with flat foot singing and rigorous hours of rehearsed choreography that always makes for a great show. My audiences always gets their money’s worth as I know the disappointment it can be on the receiving end of an artists not so best night. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to grow with my fans with cross over records like, “Invisible”, “Ride” and “Love”. All requested performance pieces at the most massive events coming to town. Huge honor to travel somewhere else and be supported as if you’re from the area.
