Life & Work with Lauren Connor of South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Connor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At the start of Covid we moved from Baltimore to coastal South Carolina. I was a teacher in Baltimore but decided not to go back to teaching, at least not right away. To fight boredom during Covid I took and online cookie decorating class and loved it! No one else in my area was making decorated sugar cookies. I took them to a few parties and events when things started to open up again and people wanted to buy them! My daughter helped me make an Instagram and it took off! People started ordering right away! Before long I had added cakes and macarons and gourmet cookies to my menu and continued to grow. Each January when it is slow I try to learn something new and consider adding it. Cakes and macarons were so fun to learn! Sourdough I decided to leave to others! Baking is so much fun and this business has been a Godsend for me!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pretty smooth! I’d say the biggest challenge is saying no when I am already booked and also avoiding burnout. This summer I took a big step back and stopped posting as much after what felt like an insane spring. But now I feel ready to be busy again!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make custom desserts for parties and events! I am passionate about making your dessert table as unique and special as possible! I specialize in creating personalized desserts to match any theme or personality. I’m most proud when someone remembers my desserts as being not only beautiful but delicious as well.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I suffer terribly from imposter syndrome! I’m always comparing my work to others and feeling like I’m not really a professional, not as good as others. I have to remind myself daily that people actually do like my goodies and I AM good enough!
