Daily Inspiration: Meet Alec Meier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Meier.

Hi Alec, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started 15 years ago with traditional blacksmiths tool kit focusing on hammer, heat, and anvil. Later as I was progressing we modernized as some friends convinced me to start a company selling these knives. We took the name Stono as the first knives we ever made for sale were made on the Stono River in Charleston SC. After winning the made in the South awards by garden and gun it quickly became full time and I was able to do what I love ever since!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth while is ever easy. Issues with capacity, required labor and man hours is very high in this field but luckily we were able to overcome those an got to work with West Point academy, Duluth trading, and various other big names over the years.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The only original idea I ever had was inlaying raised relief maps into handles, and luckily the world thought it was a good idea as well! I’m most proud of the quality of work and the patron relationships we’ve established and maintained due to the custom quality of our work.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We now manufacture our work in western NC while maintaining a presence in both Greenville and Charleston SC
