Check Out Colin Henderson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colin Henderson.

Hi colin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a fine artist all my life using mediums of paint, drawing, and sculpture. I went to college in Philadelphia for graphic design. I have been a civil servant for the U.S. Army as a graphic designer for near 25 years. I saw the world ice carvers competition on the Discovery Channel and fell in love with ice sculpting. I took a lesson to see if I would be any good and my instructor told me I should be doing this. 16 years later Im one of three ice sculptors in South Carolina.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ice sculpting and all that comes with running a business is always challenging. The job is physically demanding, building a company while working a full time job and raising a daughter is a daily challenge. You have so much equipment to maintain including tools and a freezer that never shuts off. We sell frozen ice and we want all our customers to be able have an ice sculpture so we work hard at making it affordable for all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am proud that I get to do what I love every day.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up with seven brothers and my amazing parents. My parents were always supportive of my creativity. I grew up singing choir, marching band, painting, drawing, and sculpting. We were always on a trip to the beach, mountains, historical sights and museums.
