Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Farrington.
Hi Eddie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Started my journey in Durham, North Carolina just me and my mom after leaving home around 16 years old I moved to Chapel Hill North Carolina, where I had my dad side of the family pretty much matured into a man there at the same time forming a hip-hop group and getting a small independent deal with mammoth records. I’m about a 10 year run. I’m just doing music working in studios and doing shows and open it up for a lot of big name artist after years of working in the Music business I realize I was gonna have to find a permanent sufficient way to have an income coming in my wife and I move to Charleston South Carolina a year after I got my barbers license in Raleigh, North Carolina open up my own barbershop a few years before Covid doing an appointment only and from there I just took off the city of Charleston South Carolina truly embrace me and now I’m also a full-time employee at the Citadel military college here in Charleston. They have over 80 year-old barbershop there and I unfortunate to be one of the barbers that is on salary with full benefits and I’ve been working there for 12 years now and I have my own barbershop called LOVEJOY’S BARBERSHOP in Charleston, South Carolina in the West Last area LOVEJOY’S BARBERSHOP and also was the name I went by when I performed and recorded music truly love this job as a Barber can’t express how fortunate I am Pharma customers all the connections and networks that I’ve made in this 12 year spare the relationships and conversations that I have with people getting intricate details of their lives and ultimately forming a true friendship with them
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely has been trying times, but these are the things that find you especially when starting off a new business you have to humble yourself and just be available. I think that’s what separates successful businessman from people who pursue a business and they’re not successful. You ultimately just can’t give up gotta keep your overhead low and do great work. Google business and yelp have been a bit help customers leaving reviews, especially in growing cities.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LOVEJOY’S BARBERSHOP?
So at my barbershop, LOVEJOY’S BARBERSHOP I do appointment only most of my clients. Find me either through referrals social media or Google reviews.
Definitely providing a one-on-one experience apartment only I feel like sets me apart from a lot of other barbershops certain clients really appreciate being on the schedule, being timely, punctual and not having to share the barbershop with other people.
I think my barbershop gives off a big music aesthetic. I have classic music albums all over my walls everybody from Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Meek, Mill, and Drake a lot of times we review albums and have great discussions about music in past classic albums.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just no one understand because of the Internet and social media Google and so many other ways to promote yourself coming into the Barber industry you don’t have to do it the same way your grandfather did or even your father did it. You can work in a shop with a nice flow of walk-ins for two or three years build up enough clientele and break off and open up any lane that you would like whether you’re doing just barbershops for regular people serving men only linking up with wedding planners and helping out with groomsmen, trying to get on movie sets and doing hair for Music productions in your area whether you wanna work with handicap kids kids with Autism or just kids in general it’s just so many different ways you can come into the industry and have complete control of your business flow because you’re doing it all through appointments so just don’t shoot yourself know that skies the limit, you can create and curate what you want your clientele to be
