Today we’d like to introduce you to Ice Pick Willie.
Hi Ice Pick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ice Pick Willie started with a simple idea.. to make heavy music that actually means something to us and have a damn good time doing it.
We’re a deathcore band out of Sumter, South Carolina, and the band has grown through a lot of hard work, writing, playing shows, meeting people, and constantly pushing ourselves to get better. We’ve never really been interested in trying to fit into a specific mold. We just wanted to make the kind of heavy music we love and build something of our own.
Over time, we’ve released our music, including our Lethal Force EP, our single stabbed to death, and have a new single releasing August 21st called code to my rage. We have played shows around the Carolinas, are playing in Savannah GA and Jacksonville Fl this weekend, and started building a following of people who connect with what we’re doing. We are going on our east coast tour for our new album releasing in November time frame. Every show, release, and new person we meet has helped push Ice Pick Willie a little further.
For us, it’s not about pretending we’ve already made it. We’re are hungry more now than ever. We’re still writing, still playing, and still trying to take this thing as far as we possibly can. We want people to come to an Ice Pick Willie show and leave feeling like they just got their ass kicked in the best possible way. Our goal is simple, hit hard, stay real to ourselves, and leave a mark every time!
At the end of the day, Ice Pick Willie is about heavy music, good people, and doing this shit our own way and making friends along the way!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any band trying to build something from the ground up, we’ve dealt with lineup changes, money, scheduling, finding places to play, getting people to actually hear our music, and all the other stuff that comes with being an independent band. There have been plenty of times where it would’ve been easier to just say, “Screw It” and walk away.
But that’s also what makes it worth it. Every setback has pushed us to work harder and figure things out ourselves. We’ve learned a lot by doing everything from writing and recording to promoting shows and trying to get our music in front of new people.
We’re nowhere near where we ultimately want to be, but we’ve come a long way from where we started. The struggles are part of the story, and honestly, they’re a big part of what keeps us hungry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ice Pick Willie is a deathcore band based out of Sumter, South Carolina. At the core of what we do is heavy, aggressive music that combines heavy riffs, breakdowns, and vocals with lyrics that come from real experiences, emotions, and darker parts of life.
We’re known for bringing a lot of energy to our live shows. We want our performances to feel chaotic, intense, and memorable, not just like a band standing on a stage playing songs. We want the crowd to feel like they’re part of it.
What we’re probably most proud of is how much we’ve built from the ground up. We’re an independent band, and everything from the music and artwork to promoting ourselves, booking shows, and building our audience has taken a lot of work. Seeing people who discovered us through a song or show become regular supporters means a lot to us.
I think what sets Ice Pick Willie apart is that we’re not trying to be something we’re not. We’re making the kind of music we genuinely love, doing it our own way, and putting everything we have into it. We’d rather build something real and lasting than chase whatever happens to be popular at the moment.
We’re still hungry, and we’re still growing. Honestly, we feel like we’re just getting started.
What’s next?
We’ve got a lot planned for Ice Pick Willie. Our biggest goal is to keep growing more music, more shows, more people hearing what we’re doing, and eventually taking this thing outside of South Carolina and across the country.
We’re constantly working on new material, and we want to keep pushing ourselves musically and see how far we can take our sound. We also want to play bigger shows and festivals, build relationships with more bands, promoters, and fans, and eventually get on some serious tours.
We’re also putting a lot of energy into building our own events and creating opportunities for other heavy bands. We don’t just want to be another band on the card, we want to help build the metal scene around us.
There’s no intention of slowing down. If anything, we’re just getting started. The goal is to keep putting out music, keep getting on stages, keep growing the family around Ice Pick Willie, and see how far we can take it.
We have no idea exactly where this road is going to lead, but we’re damn sure going to find out.
