Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Bullock.
Hi Whitney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career with cats as a receptionist at a cat’s only veterinary clinic. After a few years I worked my way up to veterinary technician, and became very skilled at handling all types of cats. While there I also learned that there is a huge need for people who can groom cats- and that there aren’t many cat groomers out there! After a decade honing my cat-handling skills I took the leap and opened a mobile salon, then eventually settled into a brick and mortar- where I’ve been for seven years. We started building the social media side of the business right away- I hired another vet tech that I knew well that is very tech savy to both help me both in the salon, and with filming content. After a year we had really started to be known locally for our Instagram account, and after 2-3 years we were beginning to get noticed nationally. Now at year 7 we make content for other companies along with still grooming all these cats! It is challenging but lots of fun- and never boring!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along the way I lost my first business partner, got banned from running ads on Facebook, and had my rent unexpectedly raised a few times. I also learned the hard way that once you have fans on social media- you also get haters! At first my feelings would get hurt when trolls would make nasty comments on my videos- I really had to develop a thick skin. Now I realize that every video gets negative comments if it gets enough views, and it’s actually a sign that your content is getting more views.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional cat groomer- a difficulty skill to master, and I’m known for my wildly popular (and funny) social media presence. I’m not politically correct, I don’t take myself too seriously, and I don’t get offended easily either. I think if there is an opportunity to make your video more entertaining, you should do it- even if its an educational video, and we try to do that every single day! I
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Charleston has it all- history, culture, arts, and the BEACH! My absolute favorite place- besides Disney, lol.
