Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Vanhannegeyn.
Hi Malcolm , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start by making a last-minute decision just before heading to college. During my sophomore year at the University of South Carolina Upstate, I joined ESPN on Campus and began working in broadcast, which sparked my passion for sports media and production.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success has been filled with both highs and lows, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Overcoming challenges has strengthened my determination, especially as I continue to navigate an industry where African American representation remains limited. The history, impact, and contributions of African Americans in this field are not taught or recognized as much as they should be. I want to help change that narrative by creating opportunities, increasing visibility, and contributing my own perspective to an industry where stories like mine have too often been overlooked.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I film just about everything because I don’t believe in limiting myself to one niche. I think it’s important to stay versatile rather than be put into a box, which is why I’m passionate about learning every aspect of the creative process. I’m known for my dynamic storytelling and my ability to create a story within a story, using as few visual effects as possible and allowing the narrative itself to have the greatest impact.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
There’s not really one answer… but A relationship with God (Jesus), Hard work, Sacrifice, and Discipline is the Key.
