Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m starting my third and final year of law school this fall, so I’m right at the tail end of this chapter. Honestly, the story starts somewhere a lot harder than a classroom — I went through domestic violence and had to navigate the court system as someone experiencing it firsthand. That experience showed me, in a very real and personal way, how confusing and overwhelming the legal system can be for people who are already at their most vulnerable. It planted a seed. I didn’t have a grand plan to become a lawyer — it grew out of wanting to understand the system that had so much power over my life, and eventually wanting to be someone who could help others navigate with clarity and support. That’s what brought me to law school, and it’s what keeps me going through the hard parts of it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Law school is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced — it pushes you academically, mentally, and tests you in ways you don’t expect until you’re actually in it. It’s not the easiest thing in the world, and there were plenty of moments where I doubted whether I could keep up or whether I belonged there. But I think that’s part of the process — you learn just as much about your own resilience as you do about the law itself. I don’t think anyone gets through it without struggling somewhere along the way, and I try not to pretend otherwise.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now, my main focus is law school itself. I’m heading into my third and final year, but alongside that, I’ve built a community of about 145k followers on TikTok by sharing my life as a law student. It started as a way to document the journey for myself, but it turned into something bigger. A lot of people reach out to say they feel less alone in the process, whether they’re in law school too, thinking about applying, or just curious what it’s really like behind the scenes. Some have even told me it inspired them to look into law school themselves. What I’m most proud of is being able to show an honest, unfiltered version of this path, not just the highlight reel, but the late nights and the doubt too. I’m not sure I’d say I do anything special. I just share my real experience, good and bad, and I’ve been really grateful that people relate to it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people might not expect is that I’ve always loved creative pursuits. Before I found my way to law school, I actually thought I wanted to go to school for art. I’ve made sure to keep creative hobbies in my life along the way, and my latest one is bedazzling anything and everything, including my textbooks. It’s become a fun way for me to bring a little color and personality into something as serious as law school.
