Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Singer.
Hi Chad, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from The Citadel with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with the plan to serve a career in the military. After graduating from The Citadel, I commissioned into the US Navy, where I completed multiple deployments to the Central American, Pacific, and Middle Eastern Theaters of Operations. In 2016, I came home from deployment to find my dog extremely reactive not only to other people and dogs, but also to me. When I left for deployment, this dog was just under a year old, and by the time I returned, he was close to two years old. This experience led me down a path of dog training, where I decided to resign from active duty service and become a professional dog trainer. I spent a year apprenticing with dog trainers in San Diego, California, and attending courses at The Michael Ellis School of Dog Trainers before returning home to the Charleston Lowcountry and founding Canine Revolution Dog Training in 2017. My mission has always been to “enhance the dog and owner relationship through education, balance, and pack instincts.” And that remains the mission of Canine Revolution Dog Training today, which now consists of a premier dog training team with over 20 professionals on staff.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t believe there is such a thing as a smooth road; there is no smooth road for a dog owner, a dog trainer, or an entrepreneur / small business, for sure. Out of the countless struggles that have been experienced, some of the key struggles that come to mind are: learning how to help different dogs and owners who are at different stages in life and with different goals (dog training is not “cookie cutter”, it must be adapted to the unique dog and owner), development of a professional dog training team where everyone is focused on making each dog the best they can be, balancing life with business, and many other struggles. An entrepreneur / small business owner is constantly learning how to handle whatever struggle they are facing at the time and adapting to provide the best possible service or product for their business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Canine Revolution Dog Training is known for its extensive lifetime support to the families who trust us with their dog’s training. Two of the main things that set us apart from other dog trainers are our training philosophy and our extensive team of dog training professionals. Our training philosophy differs from other dog trainers’ because we place a heavy emphasis on the individual dog and its relationships (with its trainer, our entire team, and, of course, its family). Additionally, we take the time needed during training with the dog to really help it change how it thinks and understands its rules, boundaries, and expectations. For example, an anxious, fearful, or reactive dog needs time, consistency, and repetition to adapt from a mindset of anxiety, fear, or reactivity to one of calm, confidence, and relaxation. Most dog trainers won’t take the time to do so and instead focus on shorter training periods with more pressure on the dog. The second thing that sets Canine Revolution Dog Training apart from other dog trainers is our extensive team of training professionals, from Professional Dog Trainers to Training Assistants; our team works extremely hard to provide the proper training, care, and exercise each dog needs. Other dog training organizations won’t develop a team of 20+ professionals because of the cost and time required to train and maintain a team like ours. While Canine Revolution Dog Training supports all dog and owner goals, we are well known for our behavior modification and rehabilitation, taking extreme cases to manageable family members. We are also known for our strong emphasis on a dog’s engagement with the owner and the development of eye contact training, both of which help with a dog’s social neutrality.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe the success Canine Revolution Dog Training has experienced is due to our core values: honor, integrity, hard work, time management, ethics, support, commitment, and always keeping the dog’s best interests in mind.
