Hi Amie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Flourishing Families of South Carolina was founded from a simple but powerful belief: families caring for children from hard places deserve support. Too often, adoptive, foster, and kinship caregivers are expected to navigate the effects of trauma without the tools, encouragement, or community they need. We exist to bridge that gap by equipping caregivers and the professionals who serve them with practical, relationship-based strategies that foster healing and connection.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of our greatest challenges has been meeting the growing demand for trauma-informed support. As more families, professionals, and organizations seek training and individualized coaching, we’ve had to thoughtfully expand our capacity while maintaining the high-quality, relationship-centered approach that defines our work.

Flourishing Families of South Carolina creates lasting healing for children by equipping the caregivers who care for them. Through trauma-informed training, individualized caregiver coaching, and community partnerships rooted in Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®), we’re helping families flourish and cultivating a Culture of Care across South Carolina.
Children who have experienced trauma need more than traditional parenting or behavioral approaches—they need caregivers and professionals who understand the impact of trauma and know how to respond with connection. Across South Carolina, many families and organizations have limited access to trauma-informed education, coaching, and ongoing support. Our work addresses this need by making evidence-informed, relationship-centered resources more accessible to families, schools, clinicians, agencies, and communities.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Some of our strongest partnerships have started with a simple conversation, a shared mission, or a willingness to serve together. We encourage others to intentionally seek out someone who is a few steps ahead—someone whose values you admire and whose experience can help guide your journey. Most people are honored to share what they’ve learned when the relationship is built on authenticity, humility, and a genuine desire to grow.
South Carolina has an incredible network of agencies, nonprofits, schools, churches, clinicians, and child-serving organizations that are all working toward the same goal of helping children and families thrive. We’ve found that intentionally connecting with these partners has allowed us to expand the reach of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) far beyond what any one organization could accomplish alone. By sharing knowledge, learning from one another, and collaborating across systems, we’re helping build a stronger Culture of Care throughout our state.
