Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaysia Belle.
Hi Alaysia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always had a passion for beauty and fashion since I was a little girl. Watching my late grandmother, Janie Mae Jackson and also my mom, Yvetta Jackson, get ready. My grandmother used to sew and could make an outfit out of scraps! She even made me clothes growing up. My mom always had style, and she still does; she could do hair and wanted to be a fashion designer at one point. I went on to develop that same sense of style and love for beauty as them. I started dressing up more in high school and wearing high heels daily and a little makeup (what my mother allowed lol). I won best dressed my senior year and after I graduated high school I continued to develop my sense of style and beauty. After having my son in 2016, I went through a horrible bout of postpartum depression and the only thing that seemed to pull me out of it besides God, was makeup! I started watching all the OG YouTubers like MakeupShayla, who taught me how to do a full face. Eventually I got really good at it and started getting booked for photoshoots, weddings, birthdays, and special events. But me being me, I wanted to go about doing makeup professionally, the right way. I started looking up what it takes to be a makeup artist in South Carolina on Google and found out that I would need an esthetician license. I had no idea what an esthetician was back then lol. I did more research and eventually found a school. I continued to take small gigs here and there and working 9-5 jobs until I finally started esthetician school 4 years later in 2020. I became a licensed esthetician by August of that year and opened my own storefront using my own money that I saved (ladies you don’t need a man to invest in you) and the rest was history.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has never been smooth and it still hasn’t been! The biggest hurdle I’ve found for myself in business is MARKETING! I’m very shy and socially awkward in person I feel like (others may disagree lol) so I’ve had a hard time having the guts to get out there on feet and talk to people face to face about my business and I always feel like my business is too small to be in big networking spaces so I never attend. I definitely have a bad case of imposter syndrome, so that’s been a constant battle for me. Even showing up face to camera on social media has been tough for me. I feel as though this has kind of stunt the growth of my business in a sense, but this year I definitely plan on slowly but surely stepping outside of my comfort zone and putting Belle’s Beauty on the map. So that I can continue to grow my business and reach my audience that’s waiting to meet me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed esthetician, I’m currently dual licensed in both the states of South and North Carolina. So I take clients in both states. I’m known in South Carolina as a makeup artist, but in North Carolina as a waxer. I’ve slowly went full time waxing in my business and stopped doing makeup a few years ago. So currently I only specialize in waxing. I’m currently in nursing school to broaden my service menu to more medical aesthetics services such as Botox, fillers, laser hair removal, etc. What I’m most proud of in my business is the small amount of returning clients I’ve garnered in both states that trust in me and my services and my business. I’m proud to have taken the steps to bet on Belle’s Beauty. What sets me apart from others is my ability to pivot in my business and continue to elevate and innovate. I don’t believe in staying stagnant in my business. I love to continue to offer something new and refreshing and fun to my clients.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being personable is a huge characteristic I feel is important to the success I’ve had so far with my business. So many times I’ve met clients that came from bigger chain waxing facilities that said they hated how rushed the service was or how it didn’t feel as thorough of a service to them as it does when they come to me. They love having that one on one connection with me, it makes the process less frightening for them and makes them more comfortable and keeps them coming back! I love meeting new clients and learning about them as a person and not just seeing them as clients per se but as real human beings with lives and personalities and feelings. Also, offering luxury services at an affordable price has been an important quality as well.
