Life & Work with Renea of South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renea.

Hi Renea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I founded my baking business (Sweets By Renea) in September 2022 after my mom encouraged me to turn my passion for baking and cooking into a business. To build brand awareness and connect with the community. I began participating in local events throughout the Charleston, SC, area, where I showcased my products and introduced my business to new customers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Managing a baking business has not always been an easy journey. I am currently in the process of obtaining my retail license and working toward trademarking my business logo. One of the challenges I face is securing opportunities to participate in certain events, as some require vendors to have a retail license. Another challenge is the highly competitive baking industry in the Charleston, SC area. With so many talented bakers offering similar products, it can be difficult to distinguish my business and stand out. Additionally, maintaining a consistent social media presence has been challenging. As a full-time teacher assistant working with students with special needs, balancing my career and my business often limits the time I have to create and post content regularly. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to growing my business and continuing to pursue my goals.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work full-time as a teacher assistant supporting students with special needs, a role I have proudly held for the past two years. I truly enjoy what I do and find it rewarding to make a positive difference in the lives of my students. My responsibilities include assisting the classroom teacher with daily tasks, maintaining an organized learning environment, grading assignments, and providing individualized support and encouragement to students. Among my family and friends, I am known as “Smiley” because of my positive attitude and the big smile I wear every day. I am also known for baking my homemade brownies, which have become a favorite among those who know me. One of my greatest accomplishments is the positive impact I have on my students and serving as a caring, supportive role model. What sets me apart is my warm personality, calm demeanor, and genuine passion for helping others, especially children.

What are your plans for the future?
My long-term goal is to become a full-time baker and content creator. I am excited to continue expanding my business, building a larger audience through engaging content, and sharing my passion for baking with others. As my business grows, I plan to begin accepting more custom orders and eventually ship my desserts to customers nationwide, with the long-term vision of expanding to international shipping. I am committed to turning my passion into a successful and sustainable career while continuing to inspire others through my creativity and love for baking.
