Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Roach.
Hi Robin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Robin’s Just Desserts started during COVID, but the inspiration was my son, Bryan, who has Down syndrome, autism, and celiac disease. I also have celiac disease, so I knew how hard it was to find desserts that were truly safe and still tasted amazing.
I started baking in a dedicated 100% gluten-free kitchen with two goals: to create incredible desserts for the celiac community and to build a business that could provide opportunities for Bryan and others with special needs.
Today, we’ve grown into a thriving bakery with amazing customers, local retail partners, and a strong presence at farmers markets. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to our mission—making delicious gluten-free desserts that people can trust and enjoy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Like any small business, there have been challenges. Learning how to run a business while perfecting recipes, balancing family life, and wearing every hat—from baker to accountant to marketer—has been a learning experience.
One of the biggest challenges has been educating people about celiac disease and what it truly means to be 100% gluten-free. Building that trust takes time, but it’s been worth it. Every challenge has helped us grow, and I wouldn’t change the journey because it’s made our business stronger.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Robin’s Just Desserts is about much more than baking. We create 100% gluten-free, celiac-safe desserts, but our bigger mission is creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The business was inspired by my son, Bryan, who has Down syndrome, autism, and celiac disease. As he got older, I wanted to build something that could give him meaningful work and show others what’s possible. Today, Bryan is an important part of our business, and our long-term goal is to create even more opportunities for people with special needs.
I’m most proud that we’ve been able to combine purpose with quality. Our customers don’t support us because they feel sorry for us—they come back because the desserts are exceptional. The mission may bring people through the door, but the products keep them coming back.
I think that’s what sets us apart. Every dessert we make helps support a bigger purpose: creating opportunities, changing perceptions about disability, and proving that inclusion and excellence can go hand in hand
Any big plans?
We’re excited about continuing to grow while staying true to our mission. As the business expands, my goal is to create more meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities and continue showing what they’re capable of.
We’re also looking at expanding our product line and reaching more families who need safe, celiac-friendly desserts. No matter how much we grow, our focus will always be on quality, community, and making a positive impact—one dessert at a time.
