Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Evan.
Elena, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and my home was near Acropolis and Parthenon. The area was full of Artists, Museums, Galleries & Cultural Events from all over the world. I’m a self-taught artist, and I always remember myself painting inside the class and dreaming of my next painting. I started doing portraits and landscapes using charcoal and pencils. Later, I studied Shipping and worked as a director in a shipping company in Piraeus. Also, I have a SC real estate license. In the 2000’s, I moved to the very beautiful Charleston. This beautiful and historic city inspired me to continue painting and to dream of my next artwork. I won several awards throughout Art Shows in Greece and U.S. Also, my Artwork is in private collections throughout Greece and various U.S galleries.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Difficulties exist everywhere, through the temporary initial career self-doubt and difficulty finding the right gallery to represent your artwork. Also, it is not easy to be surrounded by talented artists. For this reason, I keep trying to self-improve as an artist in order to create, share and connect my passion with other people.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I enjoy the use of acrylics, oils, ink, mixed media while also utilizing gold, silver, and copper leaf on canvas or wood. Also, I like to experiment with any natural materials, especially with metal. Some of my works may have a unique micro-sculpture combined with mixed media and gold leaf. Something that aids in this technique is my creative process and my imagination. I am able to blend different materials, like metal, gold leaf and sometimes different fabrics in my mixed media application process.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think to an extent, some luck can play a role in life and business, but it is not the defining factor- the defining factor would be the good deeds and choices we do along the way that help shape where we are today. Also, to work hard and to be persistent in the pursuit of your desires in order to reach the highest point in your life.
