Today we’d like to introduce you to May Gossett.
Hi May, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
May Gossett was born and raised in Chesnee SC. She inherited her love of music from her great grandmother who played the piano for the local church. Her first taste of music was at home in form of country music, which her mother would play while preparing family meals. She recalls listening to classic country music such as Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, Glen Campbell, Buck Owens, and Charlie Pride. May lived to sing for her family and friends as early as age four.
At age 10 she taught herself to play the cornet and joined the beginner band of Chesnee Elementary School. In 8th grade she joined the Chesnee High School Marching Band and played the trumpet. She lettered every year in music throughout her high school years. At age 17 she began playing the electric guitar and within three months she joined her first rock band. At age 18 she began on the road touring with 3 bands over a period of 5 years. Following her road tours she decided to utilize a music scholarship given by University of South Carolina at Spartanburg. She was a member of the USCS Pep Band. After years of focusing on her career as the owner and operator of AMG Parts and Equipment she began playing guitar again. In 2017 she joined a band and simultaneously began her recording work at Red Arrow Studio in Westminster SC. She released her first album titled “I’m Only Human” in 2019. Since then she has recorded and released 10 original songs and 11 cover songs. Her music can be found on most streaming platforms as well as YouTube, Spotify, and Pandora. In 2029 she was nominated for Best Music Video, Best Album, Best New Artist, and Best Solo Artist in the Greenville SC Upstate Music Awards. She placed in the top 5 in the category of Best New Artist. May’s original music crosses several genres, blues, rock, country, pop, and Americana.Today she performs as a solo artist, Smoke and Honey duo, and as lead vocalist and guitarist for Peanut Butter Whiskey Band. She loves music and life and helping others in need. She is a great philanthropist and gives of her time often to raise funds for those in need.
