Check Out Jackie Laughridge’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Laughridge.

Hi jackie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started out as a way to earn a little extra money to help put my daughter through college. Bought a few pieces of furniture at auctions with my boyfriend at the time (Joe). Learned to paint furniture in basement of my home in Greenville and did a few pieces and sold them on Marketplace. In a few months we put things in an area antique store and he helped with my social media. After doing that for 1.5 years we got a good area following where I started doing custom work for clients while working my full time nursing job (through Covid). As things grew I knew I needed to get it out of my basement and have a shop to work in with a small store front. Now 7 years later, I have a 5,000 sqft building where I have a workshop, and retail storefront. We do custom painting, refinish furniture with updated staining and also sell vintage furniture now. We usually stock about 200 pieces of furniture and see about 100-150 customers every weekend in our store. One thing I didn’t mention before, after opening our store, I was able to leave my nursing job in 6 weeks and Joe is now my husband and he helps me full time in the business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Always struggles with some clients, learning what it takes to open/run a small business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Nurse for over 20 years. Learn a lot about what I do in refinishing furniture by trial and error.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Been in the Greenville area for 30+ years and I’ve seen it grow and a lot of the changes with the population. Thankful because with people moving here they need furniture!
