Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamara Campbell.
Hi Kamara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Exodus 12 Productions was launched on July 7, 2020, after the Lord instructed me to start the company. The name comes from Exodus chapter 12 in the Bible, where God gave His people specific instructions that ultimately led to their deliverance. That chapter has always represented obedience, freedom, and God’s power to set people free, which became the foundation of our mission.
As a co-owner of Exodus 12 Productions, I believe film is one of the most powerful ways to reach people with truth. Our mission is to create content for the Kingdom that points people to Jesus Christ and encourages them to experience the freedom found in Him.
Since launching the company, we have produced two feature films, with a third currently in pre-production. Every project has stretched me creatively and professionally, teaching me everything from writing and producing to navigating distribution and marketing. Each step has reinforced that even a small independent production company can make a lasting impact when it is built with purpose.
Today, my focus extends beyond producing films. I’m developing educational resources designed to help aspiring filmmakers take their stories from an idea to the big screen. I want to share the lessons I’ve learned—the successes, the mistakes, and the practical steps—so others can confidently bring their own God-given stories to life.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see what God has done since 2020. What began with a step of obedience has grown into a production company with multiple films and a growing vision to equip and encourage the next generation of filmmakers. My prayer is that every project we create and every person we help will ultimately point people back to Christ and remind them that true freedom is found in Him.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. When God gives you a vision, He doesn’t always show you every step of how it’s going to come together. There were many moments when I didn’t know how we were going to fund a project, find the right locations, assemble a cast and crew, or cover the countless expenses that come with producing a film. From the outside, it can look overwhelming.
Those moments taught me to trust God in a way I never had before. Instead of focusing on what I lacked, I had to focus on the One who gave me the vision in the first place. Time after time, He provided exactly what was needed—whether it was the right people, the right resources, financial provision, or unexpected opportunities. Looking back, I can honestly say that every film we’ve completed is a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
The challenges have stretched me as both a filmmaker and a business owner, but they have also strengthened my faith. If everything had been easy, I don’t think I would have seen God’s hand as clearly as I have throughout this journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear several hats. I’m a filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, author, and financial coach, but at the heart of everything I do is one mission: to glorify God and help point people back to Jesus Christ. Through Exodus 12 Productions, I create Kingdom-centered films that address topics many people either avoid or portray inaccurately in entertainment. Rather than simply making “faith-based” films, I want to tell stories that confront real spiritual battles, challenge viewers to examine their hearts, and ultimately lead people toward the truth found in Christ.
In addition to producing films, I’m currently developing educational resources to help aspiring filmmakers bring their stories from an idea to the big screen. I want to make the filmmaking process less intimidating by sharing the practical lessons I’ve learned along the way so others can confidently pursue the stories God has placed on their hearts.
What I’m most proud of, however, isn’t a movie or a business—it’s my family. My husband and our children are my greatest blessings. Marriage has challenged me, refined me, and helped shape me into the woman I am today. My children remind me daily why I strive to leave a legacy that points them and others to Christ.
I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to obedience over popularity. I’m not interested in creating content simply because it will sell or entertain. My desire is to create Kingdom films that address difficult topics with biblical truth, even when those conversations aren’t easy. If a film encourages someone to seek Christ, examine their life, or find freedom through Him, then I believe I’ve accomplished exactly what God called me to do.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think filmmaking itself is one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. Every time I begin a new project or prepare for a movie premiere, there’s a level of uncertainty that never really goes away. You can spend months writing, planning, budgeting, casting, rehearsing, and preparing, but there are still countless things that are outside of your control. Equipment can fail, schedules can change, people can back out, weather can interfere, or unexpected expenses can arise.
I’ve learned that risk isn’t about acting without preparation—it’s about moving forward even when you know you can’t control every outcome. I do everything I can to prepare well, but there always comes a point where I have to trust God with the rest.
Looking back, every film has required me to step outside of my comfort zone. There were times I didn’t know how the resources would come together or how everything would work out, yet God has faithfully provided what was needed each step of the way. Those experiences have changed my perspective on risk. Instead of seeing it as something to avoid, I’ve come to see it as an opportunity to grow in faith, develop resilience, and watch God accomplish things that I couldn’t have done on my own.
If I’ve learned anything through this journey, it’s that some of the greatest opportunities in life exist on the other side of obedience. Had I waited until I had every answer, Exodus 12 Productions would have never been started, and none of our films would have been made.
