Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Wharton.
Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child I was always skeptical of pharmaceutical drugs, even though it seemed to be the only option for whatever ailment I was going through. Whether it was seasonal allergies, severe growing pains, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), sports injury, torticollis, or just plain pain, the option always was to take a pill for it. I learned quickly that taking medication not only met me with more symptoms, also known as side effects, it was something I would not accept as the only answer.
Fast-forward to discovering chiropractic when I was a teenager. I started going to a chiropractor to help me recover from a knee injury from soccer. I received my first chiropractic adjustments and was surprised that not only did my knee feel and function better, so did everything! My knee wasn’t even touched by the chiropractor, just my spine. The side effects of chiropractic were beneficial to my well-being too. They included less tension, better sleep, better mood, and a fuller sense of wholeness. That was the first “light bulb” moment.
The last “light bulb” moment of many, which is what basically made me apply to chiropractic school shortly after, was when I was having an allergic reaction from an antibiotic that went on for a week. My face, hands, and feet were swelling and painful to where I could barely walk. The only thing that stopped my reaction was chiropractic adjustments. By simply removing the interference non my nervous system, my immune system had the energy to do the rest.
In a world dominated by pharmaceutical corporations and lifetime sentences of taking pills, one prescription eventually leading to another, chiropractic just made sense to me. The spine houses and protects the central nervous system and the central nervous system works in coherence with every system and cell of the body! That was the answer to health.
Chiropractic is safe, it is natural, and there are no poisoning effects that medication promises. My experiences made me want to bring the truth to my friends, my family, my community, and to the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been smooth for the most part. Smooth, in that I often find that things work out as long as I stay true and as long as I trust. Even though there are hard times, I still feel as though I am supported by the universe. Of course there are many hard lessons, lots of long hours, lots of questioning myself, lots of “blood, sweat, and tears,” and lots of wtf moments. Educating a world that has been programed in a completely different paradigm can feel heavy at times, but I just keep trucking. I think it’s pretty normal to have ups and downs with any journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Cypress Chiropractic is a boutique holistic family chiropractic studio located off of East Bay Street downtown. We specialize in holistic chiropractic care that includes manual adjustments that are tailored to your specific needs. We emphasize the importance of a clear nerve channel so that all systems in the body can work with clear coherent communication. Holism starts with the deepest part of you, your nervous system.
There are several aspects that set Cypress Chiropractic & Wellness apart. Being that we are a boutique practice, we offer very personalized care that includes 1-2-1 time with the doctor. Adjustments are tailored to your needs, so how we provide care to a newborn will obviously look different as to how we provide care to a body builder.
The space is beautiful and calming from the moment you enter the parking lot. Since we are in the historic Faber House, you walk through a garden and enter a space that is inviting with natural lighting, natural wood, pure essential oils, and music. The members of our practice are like family. We build a supportive relationship with you that is nourished throughout your life.
Other services we provide include Cranial adjustments, Extremity Adjustments, Massage Therapy, Soft-tissue Mobilization (fascial scraping), KT Taping and Reiki. We include retail in our studio as well, that includes doTerra Essential Oils and supplements.
Our brand that is symbolized by the Bald Cypress tree, a local tree to the Lowcountry of South Carolina. A healthy person is one that is natural, adaptable, and strong, just like the Bald Cypress that can thrive in marshy swampy environments as well as dry and urban environments. Also, who doesn’t love a tree?
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that Charleston is full of natural beauty with the marshlands, waterscapes, beaches, and all the trees. I love the oak trees, palmetto trees, mimosa trees and of course the cypress trees. I love the local animals… the egrets, the alligators, frogs, hawks, seagulls, dolphins, etc.. I also love the people of Charleston. Each area has its own vibe and I appreciate them all.
What I like least about our city is when we hack the trees for the sake of power lines. That hurts me. Is there not a better way?
