Hidden Gems: Meet Bryah Fluker of Braids By Bryah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryah Fluker.

Hi Bryah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing my own hair in 9th grade. I remember being in the bathroom for hours watching YouTube videos, pausing every few minutes trying to figure out how to braid or style my hair right. It definitely wasn’t perfect at first, but I kept practicing because I actually enjoyed it.

After a while, my friends started asking me to do their hair too. I’d braid for practice, try different styles, and slowly got better over time. Eventually I started thinking, “If I’m already doing my own hair and my friends’ hair… why not do everybody’s?” That’s really how braiding became something bigger for me.

Over the years, braiding taught me patience, consistency, and how to connect with people. At the same time, I balanced school and worked toward my education. I recently graduated from USC Upstate with my bachelor’s degree in Marketing, which helped me understand branding, business, and connecting with audiences in a different way.

Now I’m a young mom, a licensed braider, a marketing graduate, and getting more into content creation and UGC. A lot of where I am today started with being a teenager in the bathroom watching YouTube tutorials and teaching myself something new.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was learning everything on my own in the beginning. When I started doing hair in 9th grade, I was teaching myself through YouTube videos and spending hours practicing before I ever felt confident. A lot of it was trial and error.

As I got older, balancing different responsibilities became another struggle. I was building my skills in braiding while also focusing on school, and later balancing motherhood, work, and finishing my degree. There were times where I felt overwhelmed trying to manage everything at once.

I recently graduated from USC Upstate with my bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and getting to that point wasn’t easy. Staying committed to school while growing personally and professionally took a lot of discipline. But I think those experiences helped me become more patient, adaptable, and motivated.

Looking back, every challenge pushed me to keep going, and a lot of where I am today came from learning how to figure things out even when things weren’t easy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What y’all should know about me is I’m the owner of Braids by Bryah. I specialize in knotless braids and I really take my time to make sure my parts clean, neat, and my styles last and still look good even after you leave my chair.

I’m also getting into beauty education, so it’s not just about doing hair for me, it’s about teaching and sharing what I know too. I want other people in the beauty world to grow and win just like I am.

What sets me apart is I really care about the details and how my clients feel when they leave. I don’t rush my work, I try to make it a comfortable experience, and I want every style to match the person’s vibe and still be healthy for their hair.

What I’m most proud of brand-wise is how far I’ve come doing this on my own and building my name up from the ground. Every client that sits in my chair is part of that growth.

Overall, I just want people to know Braids by Bryah is about quality, care, and helping people feel confident and beautiful while also learning and growing in the beauty space.

How do you think about luck?
Honestly, I feel like luck plays a part, but I don’t really depend on it.

I’ve had moments that felt like good luck, like getting clients when I first started, people referring me, or things just lining up when I needed them to. Those moments helped me keep going and made me feel like I was on the right path.

But I’ve also had “bad luck” moments too, like slow days, people canceling, or times where I felt stuck and had to figure things out with no help. Those moments honestly taught me the most. They forced me to get better with my work, my mindset, and how I run my business.

So overall, I wouldn’t say my business is built on luck. It’s more like consistency, learning, and just pushing through even when things don’t go how I planned.
