Meet Charlene Keys Bowen of Ascend Studios, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlene Keys Bowen.

Charlene, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is one of evolution, faith, and building with intention.

For nearly thirty years, I held executive leadership positions within the telecommunications sector, overseeing large-scale operations, navigating complex challenges, and driving organizational growth during periods of significant transformation. These experiences fostered a disciplined approach, honed my strategic acumen, and reinforced the vital importance of effective leadership.

Over time, my interests evolved toward entrepreneurial ventures that offered more personal engagement. This shift inspired me to create environments and opportunities designed to enable others to achieve their potential.

This direction culminated in the founding of Ascend Studios, an advanced platform supporting professionals in beauty, image, and wellness by providing thoughtfully designed private studio environments. What originated as a business concept has developed into a broader mission: empowering independent professionals to establish their businesses with confidence, dignity, and excellence.

In parallel, my commitment to service and advocacy remained strong, fueling the ongoing expansion of DreamBee Foundation. This initiative is dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect through education, partnerships, and community involvement.

Reflecting on my professional journey, I recognize that my focus has consistently been on constructing systems, environments, and pathways that enable individuals to realize their full potential.

The philosophy underpinning Ascend Studios—”not a space, but a system”—is emblematic of my broader approach. I believe that environment, leadership, and encouragement are critical factors for success. When vision is combined with discipline and conviction, exceptional outcomes are possible.

I am profoundly grateful for the insights gained, the challenges met, the unwavering support received, and the continued opportunity to build with purpose.

As I progress, I remain committed to learning and growth, understanding that genuine success derives from creating spaces where others can thrive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the greatest challenges I faced early in my career was navigating environments where there were very few women, and often very few people who looked like me in executive leadership roles. In many rooms, I was either the only one or one of very few. That reality came with unspoken pressures: learning to lead with confidence while constantly proving competence, navigating competitive dynamics that sometimes differed for women, and finding my voice in spaces where representation and mentorship were limited.

At the time, those experiences could feel isolating, but looking back, they developed a level of resilience, emotional intelligence, and strategic discipline that continues to serve me today. They also deepened my understanding of the importance of creating environments where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. In many ways, both Ascend Studios and DreamBee Foundation were shaped by those experiences. I wanted to build spaces rooted not only in excellence, but also in dignity, opportunity, and belonging.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Ascend Studios, LLC is a refined platform created to support beauty, image, and wellness professionals through elevated, purposefully designed private studio environments. What began as a vision to create beautiful spaces evolved into a much larger mission: building environments where independent professionals can operate with confidence, professionalism, and purpose.

At a time when more professionals are choosing entrepreneurship and independence, Ascend Studios was intentionally designed to provide more than just space. We combine thoughtful design, operational infrastructure, and an elevated client experience to help entrepreneurs build thriving businesses within environments that feel both calming and aspirational.

Every aspect of the Ascend experience is rooted in discipline and intention—from the aesthetic details to the standards, systems, and culture that shape the environment. We believe that when people are supported by spaces that reflect excellence, they are empowered to perform, grow, and lead differently.

At its core, Ascend Studios is about more than leasing studios. It is about creating a platform where independent professionals can build beautifully, scale intelligently, and lead with purpose.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my most treasured childhood memories are surprisingly simple ones—playing outside with neighborhood friends until the streetlights came on, gardening with my mother, spending hours reading books, and dreaming about the kind of life I wanted to build someday. Even as a little girl, I remember being deeply inspired by stories of strong, accomplished women and quietly believing that I was destined to do something meaningful with my life.

I was blessed with loving, hardworking parents who sacrificed tremendously to create opportunities for me that they did not always have themselves. They taught me the value of integrity, discipline, education, and treating people well. By the time I was finishing middle school, my older siblings had grown and moved on, leaving just my younger brother and me at home. Our home was quiet, peaceful, and full of love; a place where I felt safe, supported, and encouraged to learn and dream freely.

I also have wonderful memories of traveling during the summers, visiting relatives in New Jersey, New York, and Georgia, reconnecting with family, hearing stories, laughing, and experiencing the richness of community and culture across generations. Those experiences gave me both roots and perspective.

When I think about my childhood, I think about feeling loved, grounded, encouraged to learn, and free to imagine a bigger future for myself. I carry that gratitude with me every day.
