Today we’d like to introduce you to Dierra Mouzon.
Hi Dierra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been baking since 2018, but my love for it started way before that. I’m originally from Beaufort, South Carolina, and grew up as a military brat, so I was exposed to different places and people early on. As a kid, I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was already leaning into what I do now watching the food network with my play mixing bowls pretending to be a guest on one of the shows, and baking brownies and cakes for me and my little brother in my Easy-Bake Oven.
Over time, that turned into something more serious. I worked in kitchens and eventually became a head pastry chef at a local bakery, where I really developed my skills, discipline, and consistency.
But I knew I wanted to build something that felt like mine something that reflected where I come from. That’s how Dea Dee’s Desserts started. I began from home, focusing on whole desserts like cheesecakes, cakes, and puddings with a Southern, locally inspired touch.
Since then, I’ve grown through pop-ups, collaborations, and support from my community. I’m still building, but everything I do is rooted in my passion, my culture, and my love for creating.
.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I think anyone in business can tell you that. One of my biggest challenges in the beginning was learning the business side of things. It’s one thing to love what you do and be good at it, but it’s another thing to understand pricing, operations, and how to actually run a business.
I’ve had to learn a lot along the way, sometimes through trial and error. But I’ve always seen myself as a student, so I stay open to learning and growing. Even now, I’m still figuring things out and getting better with each step.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the owner of Dea Dee’s Desserts, where I specialize in whole desserts like cheesecakes, cakes, brownies, and banana pudding. Cheesecake is really my signature I’ve been working on it for years, and I’m known for creating flavors that are both classic and unique with a locally inspired touch.
What I’m most proud of is building something from the ground up and seeing how people connect with it. When people come back, refer others, or tell me my desserts remind them of home, that means everything to me.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just stick to what’s expected. I like to take familiar flavors and make them my own while still keeping that homemade feel. At the end of the day, I want people to taste my desserts and know it was made by someone who genuinely loves what they do.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really call it luck I call it God’s plan. I truly believe God has connected me with the right people and placed me in the right rooms at the right time, even when I didn’t fully understand it.
There was a point where I was ready to give up. I remember saying I was done after my last order because nothing was going right, and I was honestly ready to walk away and do something else.
That same day, God sent a stranger who didn’t even know me. She gave my mom a message and told her that I needed to keep going, and that if I gave my heart to God, He would bless my business. That moment shifted everything for me.
So for me, it’s not about luck. I’m not lucky I’m blessed.
