Meet Joshua & Brooke DeYoung of Bricks & Minifigs Greer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua & Brooke DeYoung.

Hi Joshua & Brooke, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2020, Joshua’s life changed in an instant after a devastating motorcycle accident left him facing the possibility that he may never walk again. Overnight, he went from constantly being on the move to enduring a long and uncertain recovery. During that difficult season, someone pulled down their old LEGO sets from the attic to help pass the time. What started as a simple distraction quickly became something much more meaningful.

Josh began rebuilding the sets piece by piece, rediscovering creativity, focus, and hope along the way. Before long, he and Brooke started sourcing used LEGO sets, restoring them, replacing missing pieces, and bringing them back to life so they could continue growing the collection. What began as a hobby during recovery soon became a passion — and eventually, the foundation for a business built on perseverance, community, and joy.

Years later, Josh and Brooke decided they wanted to share that same experience with others. They dreamed of creating a place where LEGO fans of all ages could gather, build, connect, and find unique sets and pieces at affordable prices in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

Today, that dream has become a reality. More than just a store, their business has become a place centered around creativity, connection, and giving back to the community. From birthday parties and building classes to adult LEGO nights, school donations, and silent auction contributions, they are proud to create experiences that bring people together — all inspired by a journey that began with resilience, rebuilding, and a love for LEGO.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape where we are today. One of our biggest obstacles was finding the right retail space that was large enough to bring our vision to life. We also experienced a major setback when a lease unexpectedly fell through after months of planning and preparation.

Originally, we had planned to open in the fall of 2025, but delays involving permits, construction, and build-outs pushed our timeline back multiple times. It was difficult having to repeatedly postpone our grand opening, especially knowing how many people in the community were excited and waiting for us to open our doors.

Even through the delays and uncertainty, the support and encouragement from the community kept us motivated. Looking back now, those challenges taught us patience, perseverance, and the importance of staying committed to the bigger vision. When we finally opened, it made the moment even more meaningful because of everything it took to get there.
