Conversations with Clelia Reardon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clelia Reardon.

Hi Clelia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a professional musician and started teaching private music lesson on guitar, bass, ukelele, banjo and mandolin 37 years ago at a music retail location. Two years later I opened my own teaching studio with several instructors. 10 years later I moved to a larger location and have had my own studio for over 35 years. The studio has won Several “Best of Charleston awards” as well as “Charleston Choice awards”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I came up with the idea to have a teaching studio without a retail space that was a new model. There were no blueprints on how and no place to get advice on how to do it. Luckily I have a good sense of business and joined organizations like Guitar Foundation of America and Charleston Music Teachers Association to guide me along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My musical career has been varied. I am know as a Classical guitarist but I have also performed in Jazz bands as well as over 30 local Broadway shows. I play multiple instruments and multiple styles ,which makes me versatile. I think what sets me apart is the fact that I am a guitarist that reads notes, tab, chords, and by ear. I enjoy sightreading and arranging for solo or multiple instruments.
I enjoy bring all those skills to my teaching to make it enjoyable for my students.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I have collaborated with several other musicians locally ….supporting our performances also helps not only the professionals but the students. I have 4 student Ensembles that work really hard but we can always use more people in our audiences. I would also like more places for my students to perform at.
