Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Oglesbee.
Mike, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My work began through my own personal struggles. For much of my life, I dealt with anxiety, fear, self-doubt, and the feeling that life was happening to me rather than through me. I spent years trying to fight those experiences, control them, or think my way out of them, but eventually I realized the real transformation came when I stopped asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and started asking, “What is this here to teach me?”
That question became the foundation of my life and work. I began to see that our struggles are not always here to destroy us. Many times, they are revealing the patterns, beliefs, and emotional reactions that need to change so we can become who we are meant to be. That shift changed everything for me.
Over time, I turned that philosophy into a practical approach using hypnotherapy, NLP, and mindset coaching. I founded Maximized Mind, where I’ve helped people work through anxiety, depression, fear, self-doubt, relationship struggles, and the deeper patterns that keep them stuck. I also wrote Fight Back, a book focused on helping people understand and move through anxiety and depression in a more empowered way.
Today, my work continues to evolve through my broader message, What Is the Gift? I help high-achievers who may look successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck internally. My goal is to help people stop resisting their pain and start using it as a doorway into clarity, confidence, purpose, and personal power.
I got to where I am today by living the work first. I didn’t build my message from theory. I built it from experience, practice, and years of helping others transform their own struggles into strength. My mission now is to help people see that life is not always working against them. Sometimes, the very thing they are trying to escape is the thing inviting them to grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. A lot of my work was born from the very things I now help other people move through: anxiety, fear, self-doubt, emotional pain, and the belief that something was wrong with me. For a long time, I thought the goal was to get rid of my struggles, outrun them, or finally become successful enough that they would stop affecting me. But life doesn’t really work that way.
My biggest struggles were internal. I had to face the patterns I had been carrying for years: fear of failure, fear of being seen, self-judgment, emotional reactivity, and the tendency to resist the pain that was actually trying to teach me something. There were moments when I questioned myself, my path, my work, and whether I was capable of becoming the person I felt called to be.
Building a business also came with its own challenges. There were seasons of uncertainty, financial pressure, difficult decisions, and moments where I had to keep showing up even when I didn’t feel confident. Entrepreneurship has a way of exposing every insecurity you haven’t dealt with yet. It forces you to grow, not just professionally, but personally.
But looking back, I can see that those struggles were not setbacks or here to bring me down. Quite the opposite, actually. They were part of the path. They gave me the lived experience, compassion, and clarity to do the work I do today. I don’t teach people that life will stop being hard. I teach them how to stop being defeated by hardship. That is really the heart of my message: the struggle is not always the thing holding you back. Sometimes, it is the thing shaping you into who you were meant to become.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Maximized Mind Hypnotherapy & Coaching is my private practice where I help people create lasting change by addressing the deeper patterns behind anxiety, fear, self-doubt, emotional struggle, and limiting beliefs. My work combines hypnotherapy, NLP, and mindset coaching to help people shift both the conscious thoughts and subconscious patterns that keep them stuck.
I’m especially known for my work with anxiety, depression, confidence, and helping people transform their relationship with struggle. I wrote Fight Back, which focuses on anxiety and depression, and that work became a major foundation for the way I help people today.
What sets Maximized Mind apart is that I don’t simply focus on symptom relief. I help people understand what their struggle is revealing, shift the patterns beneath it, and build a stronger relationship with themselves. My deeper philosophy is that our challenges are not always here to defeat us. Often, they show us what needs to change so we can become who we are meant to be.
I’m proud that Maximized Mind has been recognized locally, statewide, and nationally for hypnotherapy, but what means the most to me is the transformation I’ve seen in clients who once felt stuck or hopeless and learned how to reclaim their peace, confidence, and personal power.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m probably less traditional in this area. I don’t rely heavily on apps, podcasts, or a long list of books to stay grounded. The greatest resources in my life are meditation, reflection, and paying close attention to what life is showing me.
I believe life is constantly giving us feedback. The challenge is that most people are too busy reacting to it, resisting it, or judging it to actually learn from it. Meditation helps me slow down enough to listen, observe my patterns, and return to a more grounded place within myself.
A question I come back to often is, “What is the gift?” That question has become one of my most powerful tools. It helps me take difficult experiences and ask what they are revealing, teaching, or inviting me to become. In that sense, life itself has become one of my greatest teachers.
