Check Out Alayna Perryman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alayna Perryman.

Hi Alayna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My introduction to photography happened during my senior year at Winthrop University. I took an Intro to Digital Photography class and was hooked. My final project was based on an artist who’s work we admired, and I focused on a composite photographer. I already had experience with graphic design, so this type of photography was right up my alley! My creative style and creative edits have become one of the things I am currently known for.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a somewhat steady road. The biggest struggle was more so in the beginning stages of doubt. Learning how to trust yourself, knowing your value, and your capabilities before having clientele can be scary thing. It’s easy to compare yourself…. don’t. I’ve learned the biggest thief of joy is comparison.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being a creative has been embedded in me since childhood. Drawing and creating became my peace. In learning the basics of photography, I was able to turn that into another creative outlet. As mentioned previously composite photography is something that I have become known for, which is the technique of taking multiple images and combining them into on seamless image. Being able to execute visually what I or a client is thinking is just…. *chefs kiss*. I think at most times I enjoy editing more than actually taking the pictures. The creative process and making something no one has seen before is so fulfilling.

I am most proud of my ability to learn. If I don’t know how to do something, I’m not stopping until I figure it out. You must always be willing to learn in everything you do. Things are constantly changing and you must be able to change with it, or be limited in your abilities.

Something else that I take pride in is making others see themselves in way they didn’t think was possible. I always love when a client says ” I was so nervous, but you made me feel comfortable.!” To me that means that I did my job well. The more relaxed someone is, the better the end result will be. I believe anyone can take good images, they just need a little direction, and maybe their favorite song.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Hmmm I myself must do better getting out there and networking. If I’m not photographing the event I might not be in attendance, but I use that opportunity to meet new people while in attendance. My advice when it comes to finding a mentor is to find someone who makes it easy to have a natural conversation. When things flow naturally, you won’t feel intimidated to ask questions.
