Hi Caitlyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In February 2021, my world shattered when I lost one of my best friends to a drunk driver. In the wake of that grief, I realized a traditional office setting would not be suitable for my soul. In truth, I needed to move my body in order to save my spirit.
What started as healing walks with my own dog, Penny (a red Labrador retriever) soon developed into a mission bigger than myself. I founded Lowcountry Barks and Recreation to build a community that fosters personalized care, a deep appreciation for nature, and the pursuit of joy daily.
Today, my husband Sam and I run this business together, providing the same personalized commitment to care and community that helped me find my way back to the light.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think most folks could agree, while no two paths to success look the same, the best adventures often have three commonalities: Grit. Growth. Grace.
Lowcountry Barks and Recreation was born from the hardest kind of grit- the kind that forces you to get up and choose life despite being consumed by death. What started as a single walk with my own pup now has me moving and grooving from sunup to sundown, with admin work saved for long after sunset (hence the late night response here! Ha!). While our “cutie crew” is undeniably adorable, providing this level of personalized care is demanding work. It requires a devotion that goes far beyond being a “pet lover”; it’s a commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.
Transitioning from a “one-woman show” to a professional partnership with my husband, Sam, has been our greatest season of growth. Fortunately, we’ve been together since our freshman year of high school, so we knew we were a solid team from the start, but working together professionally brought new learning curves. We’ve welcomed the chance to challenge and reassess boundaries, ensuring we respect our personal relationship as much as our professional mission.
Perhaps the most essential of the three, grace is what keeps us going. Grace simultaneously gives us the permission to be human and the patience to navigate the more “business” side of things. Grace is the reason to continue showing up, the reminder to stay present, and allows to return to why we started: to choose joy, find community, and GO LOWCO daily!

COME for a visit: drop ins, walks, litter refresh and more! We offer 20, 40 and 60m visits, each customized to your pets’ specific needs.
SIT for a bit: a “choose your own adventure” style extended hang. From the beach to backyard and everywhere in between, this 1-1 visit is booked at a 2hr minimum.
STAY for a night: customized sleepover in-your-home, ensuring your pets are comfy and cozy.
