Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Sass.
Hi Kenneth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My background spans multiple industries. The thread through all of it has been the same question: what is money really worth, and how do you protect it?
I started educating myself on the global financial landscape back in 2007, specifically the precious metals space. What I found changed how I think about everything. Most people have a fundamentally broken understanding of what money is. Not because they are not smart. Because nobody ever told them the truth.
That realization became the foundation for everything I have built. Over the years, I have operated businesses across behavioral health, financial services, and real estate. I have written four books, including Fiat Psychosis, which makes the case that the monetary system most people depend on is already working against them. More recently, I developed the Broken Money Academy, a financial mentorship program designed for student athletes to run alongside existing high school athletic programs, because student athletes are one of the most underserved groups when it comes to real financial education.
Carolina Gold Exchange is the most direct expression of what I believe. A place where people can come in, get educated, and hold assets that have actually preserved wealth throughout history. That is where everything started, and it is what still drives me today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been relatively smooth in some areas, but the overall journey has had its share of challenges. Like any new business, there were the typical hurdles that come with a startup: the costs, building a customer base from the ground up, and carrying the financial burden before the business gains real traction.
What made it more complex is the space we operate in. Precious metals are volatile by nature. Prices swing constantly, creating a real squeeze. You may buy inventory at a higher price point, only to find that the market has shifted and you are selling at a lower margin than anticipated. When you layer that on top of startup overhead and a customer base that is still growing, the profit margins get tight fast. You are essentially absorbing those costs while the business finds its footing. It is a patience game, and you have to believe in what you are building to push through it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Carolina Gold Exchange is located in Myrtle Beach, SC. We are open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm.
We buy and sell silver and gold bullion, numismatic coins, scrap gold and silver, rare coins, platinum, palladium, and supplies. But what actually sets us apart is the education component. We specialize in appraisals and financial education related to precious metals, bullion, and money in general. That education is currently offered at no cost to our customers.
Most shops will take your money, buy your items, and send you on your way. We take a different approach. Every client gets real attention. Real answers. We are not just transacting, we are teaching.
The brand I am most proud of is one that can stand behind what it says. We are exactly who we say we are. That is not common. I want readers to know this brand is here to stay, and that a real education comes with the service.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about Myrtle Beach is the weather, the restaurant scene, and its location. It is a genuinely good place to operate a business and build community.
