Daily Inspiration: Meet Terry Roberts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Roberts.

Hi Terry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started performing at a very young age, 14 and still perform today. I perform all genre of music from classical to commercial music. I have lived in Europe performing and now reside in Florence, SC where I am Professor of Music at Francis Marion University and the Music Director of the Florence Symphony Orchestra. I helped the university develop the Music Industry program where we now have a large performing arts center with technology labs and classroom for the music degree. Also, we have a state of the art recording studio. Students learn to record, engineer and produce recordings. We have several alumni working in the music business today. The studio is run by the university but is open to outside use for a fee. My role is as Coordinator of the music program, administrative and advisory.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial challenges revolved around securing both space and funding. Thankfully, we’ve received invaluable support from the administration and local donors, which has been instrumental in bringing our vision to life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the Music Director of the Florence Symphony Orchestra and several ensembles at Francis Marion University. Prior to this, I lived and worked in Europe for 16 years. I am happy to bring my experience in the music world here, and to the students.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a big sports enthusiast, and I use to play in rock bands.
